Chatham County Line - Autumn (LP)
€15,00Our band is a lot like this place, ” says Chatham County Line guitarist, lead singer and songwriter Dave Wilson. His eyes wander across the original hardwood lanes of the mid-century Raleigh bowling alley where he just finished rolling and drinking two rounds. Playing traditional string band instrumentation around a single microphone while clad in suits and ties visually projects a similar sepia-toned timelessness. ”We create a product that you’re familiar with and you’ll enjoy going back to because you know what to expect. My dad ran a local hardware store years ago and I always felt like we shared that.” Sure enough, like a small town store, there’s no dramatic tale or sexy hook to fuel the hype machine for Autumn, the seventh studio album since the Raleigh, NC-based Chatham County Line-Wilson, John Teer (mandolin/fiddle), Chandler Holt (banjo), and Greg Readling (bass, pedal steel, piano)-coalesced in the late 1990’s. Instead, the story behind the workmanlike group’s newest release-available September 2, 2016 via Yep Roc Records-is simple: A veteran ensemble at the top of it’s game sticking to it’s considerable strengths-poignant songwriting and inventive acoustic arrangements that draw upon a broad array of American roots influences, highlighted by trademark three- and four-part harmonies that shine throughout. ”We were so obsessive about the way Tightrope sounded and making sure we got the songs right that this record was kind of a 180 from that, ” Wilson explains, referring to the meticulous, multi-year process that birthed Autumn’s predecessor. ”I think we were all exhausted from that process and wanted to just take the songs I had written and record them.” Thanks to the more casual approach, Autumn marries the comfortable maturity of 2014’s Tightrope with the welcome spontaneity of Chatham County Line’s earlier work. Though the year between sessions wasn’t dedicated to consciously working on the record, it was perhaps the most productive period for the songs to take shape, according to Wilson. ”It’s like leaving your desk and taking a walk: You have your best ideas when you’re not working on what you’re supposed to be working on.

Chatham County Line - Sharing the Covers (LP)
€15,00Vinyl LP pressing includes digital download. North Carolina-based ensemble Chatham County Line’s eighth studio album, Sharing The Covers is, at it’s core, a tribute to those whom the band hold dear, and a chance for the group to perform modern and traditional classics in the bluegrass-style they’re known for best. On the 13-track collection, Chatham County Line takes the familiar and adds a touch of originality to create a wholly new and inventive roster of covers by Tom Petty, Alton Delmore, John Lennon, The Louvin Brothers, Beck, James Hunter, Wilco and more. Recorded at Durham, NC’s Overdub Lane studio, where they cut their first album, where 2010’s Wildwood was mixed, and where a few tracks from 2016’s Autumn were recorded, Sharing The Covers was engineered by Chris Boerner, who also engineers the band’s live shows.

Two Dollar Pistols - With Tift Merritt (LP)
€15,00”In 1999, The Two Dollar Pistols frontman John Howie, Jr. and North Carolina native, Tift Merritt, joined forces to try out some country duets they were working on – and more than a decade later, Yep Roc Records is releasing the album on vinyl. After performing the songs to an enthusiastic audience at Chapel Hill venue Local 506, the duo decided to record a seven-song EP. The Two Dollar Pistols and Tift Merritt paid tribute to country greats and duet partners held in high esteem, as well as introduced John and Tift’s first two songs penned together. The EP includes ”Suppose Tonight Would Be Our Last,” originally recorded and written by George Jones and Melba Montgomery, Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton’s classic ”Just Someone I Used to Know”, and ”One Paper Kid” as recorded by Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris. With ”If Only You Were Mine” and ”Counting the Hours,” John and Tift made a first indelible mark on the duet tradition with their own compositions.”

Blues Magoos - Mercury Singles (1966-1968) (LP)
€22,00Hailing from NYC, The Blues Magoos took the folk/blues soundtrack of their mid-sixties Greenwich Village contemporaries and forged it into a tough, garage/psych hybrid that attracted fans as quickly as it angered folk club owners, incensed by the band’s volume and unhinged stage show! Signed by Mercury Records in 1966, their inaugural single for the label, a reading of John D. Loudermilk’s ”Tobacco Road,” was a churning 4 1/2 minute(!) plunge into crazed guitar/organ/drum/bass pyrotechnics with vocals careening over the top. The release hailed the arrival of a new and wholly unique voice on the rock scene. It was also a signpost for a new genre. One of the first albums to use ”psychedelic” in the title, it arrived right on time for a generation ready to expand their consciousness with the aid of their turntables. The album’s next single, band-penned ”(We Ain’t Got) Nothin’ Yet,” featured one of the all-time great riffs, an insistent bass run over which keyboards swirled and unison vocals chanted. An absolute smash, ”(We Ain’t Got) Nothin’ Yet” zoomed to #5 on the national pop charts and made the band an exotic household name. In total, The Blues Magoos released three amazing albums and eight incredible singles on Mercury. Longtime fans, Sundazed has now gathered all sixteen A- and B-sides together on The Blues Magoos: Mercury Singles (1966-1968). Featuring the accurate, original mono single mixes from the Mercury masters, these songs have NEVER sounded better!

Owens Buck And His Buckaroos - Together Again/My Heart Skips A Beat (Gold) (LP)
€22,00Owens, Buck and His Buckaroos – Together Again / My Heart Skips A Beat – Taking it’s name from the unprecedented double-sided #1 country single, the Together Again/My Heart Skips a Beat album established Buck Owens as a top-tier country artist.
The two title tracks spent several weeks chasing each other up the country charts in 1964, even switching the #1 and #2 positions in consecutive weeks and then switching back again! Beyond those two classic tracks, the album is filled with other charting singles and well-known songs like Hello Trouble, A-11 and Close Up the Honky Tonks. This meticulously remastered Sundazed Music edition also contains two bonus tracks that happen to be two of Buck’s biggest hits. Love’s Gonna Live Here spent an astonishing 16 (!) weeks at #1 on the country charts in 1963 and Buck’s first #1 single, Act Naturally, was soon covered by his Capitol Records label mates The Beatles, who were racking up a few of their own hit singles at the time. The Beatles version, sung by fan favorite Ringo, helped introduce Buck and his Buckaroos to a whole new audience. Next stop, Carnegie Hall!

Willet Slim - Texas Oil Songs (Ltd, blue vinyl) (LP)
€20,00Country singer and disc jockey Slim Willet’s ode to tool-pushin’, Texas Oil Patch Songs was issued in 1959 by the artist on his own Winston label, and is now an impossibly-rare LP to dig up.
This Modern Harmonic edition is faithful to the original, including all twelve tracks, liner notes, restored artwork, and primed & pumped onto vinyl!
This magnificent lost treasure from the great Texas oil fields was once something of lore. Only rumored to exist. Slim Willet’s mighty collection of blue collar, well-digging classics stood little chance to begin with as only a few hundred were pressed, and oil songs never really caught on in the way the similar trucking-songs would several years later. Had Slim put this out during the great Gas Station/Truck Stop 8-Track Market of the 70’s this could have been a hit album, but with his passing in 1966, it was never to be.

Lowe Nick And His Cowboy Outfit - The Rose Of England (Remastered 2017,Gatefold sleeve) (LP)
€15,00Teaming up again with his Cowboy Outfit, Nick Lowes The Rose of England remains a highly engaging and often overlooked album. The title track tells a World War I-era tale that was sturdy enough to be covered by Brit-folkies The Oyster Band, and features a trademark Lowe hook. Nick took a huge swing at the charts, recording his version (previously recorded by Dave Edmunds, and played live by Rockpile) of his classic I Knew the Bride with pal Huey Lewis producing and his band the News providing the track. Fame and fortune may not have followed, but a solid batch of songs including covers of pals John Hiatt (She Dont Love Nobody) and Elvis Costello (Indoor Fireworks) rubbed shoulders with Nicks originals as well as Nicks most-covered cover (Moon Mullicans 7 Nights to Rock).

Paul Butterfield Blues Band - Same (Ltd, Coloured) (LP)
€22,00As young blues enthusiasts soaking up the Chicago scene in the early ’60s, Paul Butterfield, Elvin Bishop and Mike Bloomfield frequently encountered one another in the South Side clubs. Butterfield and Bishop soon took their fandom one step further and formed their own blues combo, hiring away Sam Lay and Jerome Arnold from Howlin’ Wolf’s touring band. This quartet of neophytes and veterans began gigging at Big John’s, a folk club on the North Side. Meanwhile, Bloomfield was signed to Columbia Records by John Hammond but the tracks he recorded for the label were shelved. Moving on from his stalled solo career, Bloomfield joined Butterfield and Bishop in the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
