Owens Buck - ”Live” In Scandinavia (Coloured) (LP)
€35,00Quick ViewBuck Owens’ legendary live albums from Carnegie Hall, Japan and London were landmark efforts that captured Buck and the Buckaroos at their peak, but he also recorded other live albums overseas. The most obscure of Buck’s live releases was his April 1970 show in Oslo, Norway that featured Don Rich with the Buckaroos, Buck’s son Buddy Alan and the Hagers. Fiery and intense, it reflects that unique early ‘70s period when Buck was experimenting and broadening his sound beyond his old style. With only a couple thousand copies pressed for the Norwegian market, this was Buck’s rarest album.

In February of that year, he performed in Tokyo to kick off a five-city tour that marked his first time playing in Japan, showing how global his appeal had become. The first shows were at the Budokan, the legendary martial arts hall, and the February 23rd show was recorded and filmed for broadcast, eventually seeing release only as a laserdisc in Japan. However, the video was never released anywhere else and the audio was never released at all…until now. Louisiana is a unique place. Only the backwoods of Mississippi, Alabama and South Texas can come close to the vibe that emanates from places like Alexandria, Crowley, Lake Charles and all the surrounding backwater towns.
Dark back roads lined with run down bars and roadhouses where people work hard and drink harder.
In Nashville they cried in their beer, in Richard Gibbs’ world it was blood that filled their shot glasses. Richard wrote of loneliness, booze and a need to escape a life of despair. Gibbs’ voice is half bayou/half barroom as he tells stories like “Drinkin’ Spree”, “Empty Glass”, “Too Busy Hurtin’” and “Ten Bottles Of Whiskey”. But it’s the title track that exposes the raw nerves of our storyteller’s psyche – as he treats his immortality like a plastic cup from “Nickel Beer Night”.
Richard is a drunk, bruised, sad sack of a character who stumbles home after lamenting his love-life and losing at fisticuffs.I don’t know of any LP that captures the depths of emotion and feeling of gloom that “No Use To Grieve” exudes. Even amongst the hardest core Country collectors this LP is unknown.
Now Sweden’s Sweet Mental Revenge Records have tracked Richard Gibbs and guitarist Belton Thibodeaux down for interviews and the extensive liner notes written by Luke Torn (Uncut Magazine) finally tells the story of one of country music’s holiest grail. -

It features several collaborations with other artists, including ”New Moon Over Jamaica” with Paul McCartney. Other guests include Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr., Glen Campbell, Emmylou Harris and family members Rosanne Cash, John Carter Cash, June Carter Cash and members of the Carter Family. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl.
Johnny Cash teamed with producer ”Cowboy” Jack Clement, who as Sun Records’ house engineer had overseen many of Cash’s ’50s sessions and written some of his early hits, for the star-studded Water From The Wells of Home, released on Mercury Records in 1988.
The album features guest appearances by Cash’s wife June Carter Cash and daughter Rosanne Cash, along with Glen Campbell, Jessi Colter, the Everly Brothers, Tom T. Hall, Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney and Hank Williams Jr. on an eclectic set of material including ”That Old Wheel,” a duet with Williams that became Cash’s highest-charting single in more than a decade.

Townes Van Zandt - Live In Helsinki 1993 (LP)
€29,90Quick ViewTownes Van Zandt was an American singer-songwriter. He is widely held in high regard for his poetic and often heroically sad songs. In 1983, six years after Emmylou Harris had first popularised it, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard covered his song ”Pancho and Lefty”, reaching number one on the Billboard country music chart.
Much of his life was spent touring various dive bars, often living in cheap motel rooms and backwoods cabins. And for much of the 1970s, he lived in a simple shack without electricity or a phone. He suffered from a series of drug addictions, alcoholism, and was given a psychiatric diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
Van Zandt died on New Years Day 1997 from health problems stemming from years of substance abuse. A revival of interest in Van Zandt occurred in the 2000s when two books, a documentary film (Be Here to Love Me), and numerous magazine articles about the singer were written
This LP set features a live show recorded at the Tavastia Club, Helsinki, Finland in June 1993.

At that time, he entered a recording studio in an attempt to secure a record deal as a solo artist. The recordings have been long forgotten and unheard until now. The Adams Brothers, who gained notoriety on Mike Judge’s Tales From The Tour Bus episode on Paycheck, produced the songs and worked as Paycheck’s band. These recordings showcase Paycheck’s considerable talent long before the music world took notice.
