  • Nelson Willie - Live At Budokan (2LP, RSD) (LP)

    35,00

In 1984, Willie Nelson was coming into the beginning of his popularity, having racked up 16 No. 1 country hits from the previous decade and crossing over to the pop charts multiple times, while starring in a series of hit movies and becoming one of the most recognized figures in popular culture. He united fans across genres and generations and his live shows had already become legendary. In February of that year, he performed in Tokyo to kick off a five-city tour that marked his first time playing in Japan, showing how global his appeal had become. The first shows were at the Budokan, the legendary martial arts hall, and the February 23rd show was recorded and filmed for broadcast, eventually seeing release only as a laserdisc in Japan. However, the video was never released anywhere else and the audio was never released at all…until now. Exclusively on vinyl for participating independent retailers for RSD Black Friday, this performance finds Willie and Family at a monumental point of their powers and includes a 27-song, hit-filled set across two LPs.

  • Gibbs Richard - No Use To Grieve (LP)

    25,00

Ultra rare Louisiana country / hardcore honky-tonk/ private press masterpiece from 1970
    • All original songs and a beyond essential shoulda-been-country-music-classic
    • Carefully restored and remastered sound.
    • Extensive liner notes by Luke Torn (Uncut Magazine)
    • Deluxe gatefold sleeve
    • Printed inner sleeve
    • Colored vinyl
    • From the same label that brought you the highly acclaimed Rodger Wilhoit reissue
Louisiana is a unique place. Only the backwoods of Mississippi, Alabama and South Texas can come close to the vibe that emanates from places like Alexandria, Crowley, Lake Charles and all the surrounding backwater towns.
Dark back roads lined with run down bars and roadhouses where people work hard and drink harder.
In Nashville they cried in their beer, in Richard Gibbs’ world it was blood that filled their shot glasses. Richard wrote of loneliness, booze and a need to escape a life of despair. Gibbs’ voice is half bayou/half barroom as he tells stories like “Drinkin’ Spree”, “Empty Glass”, “Too Busy Hurtin’” and “Ten Bottles Of Whiskey”. But it’s the title track that exposes the raw nerves of our storyteller’s psyche – as he treats his immortality like a plastic cup from “Nickel Beer Night”.
Richard is a drunk, bruised, sad sack of a character who stumbles home after lamenting his love-life and losing at fisticuffs.

I don’t know of any LP that captures the depths of emotion and feeling of gloom that “No Use To Grieve” exudes. Even amongst the hardest core Country collectors this LP is unknown.
Now Sweden’s Sweet Mental Revenge Records have tracked Richard Gibbs and guitarist Belton Thibodeaux down for interviews and the extensive liner notes written by Luke Torn (Uncut Magazine) finally tells the story of one of country music’s holiest grail.

  • Campbell Glen - Live From The Troubadour (2LP) (LP)

    40,00

When Glen Campbell walked onstage at the Troubadour on West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip on August, 19, 2008, he was even more iconic than the legendary venue that birthed The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Elton John, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles. A Grammy® Lifetime Achievement honoree with three Grammy® Hall of Fame awards for “Wichita Lineman,” “By The Time I Get To Phoenix” and “Gentle on My Mind,” the Arkansas-born musician thrilled the beyond capacity crowd with a mix of his hits and definition-expanding songs by his peers and contemporaries.
Performing a stunning mix of songs embedded in our DNA (“Rhinestone Cowboy,” “Galveston”) and unexpected jewels from Lou Reed (“Jesus”), Foo Fighters (“Times Like These”), Tom Petty (“Walls (Circus),” “Angel Dream”), Paul Westerberg (“Sadly Beautiful”) and Green Day (“Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”), Campbell is in fine voice and demonstrates on more than one song his dexterity, tone and emotional transparency on guitar. With a band that includes four of his children, session and live veterans from Beck, Jellyfish, Jane’s Addiction, Murphy’s Law, D Generation and Danzig, it was a night of music that explored the commonalities of genres, country-tinged arrangements and how good live music feels.
Warm, friendly, engaging, the Country Music Hall of Famer, as well as original inductee at the Musicians’ Hall of Fame, shared his love of performing, family and songs with the SRO crowd. This is the last filmed performance of Glen’s career.  While the performing space is so tight, the musicians are packed almost as close as the awestruck crowd, this PBS “Front & Center” special demonstrates why the beloved Oscar® nominee was a beloved American voice – and still inspires viewers with its exuberant performances.

  • Townes Van Zandt - Live In Helsinki 1993 (LP)

    29,90

Townes Van Zandt was an American singer-songwriter. He is widely held in high regard for his poetic and often heroically sad songs. In 1983, six years after Emmylou Harris had first popularised it, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard covered his song ”Pancho and Lefty”, reaching number one on the Billboard country music chart.

Much of his life was spent touring various dive bars, often living in cheap motel rooms and backwoods cabins. And for much of the 1970s, he lived in a simple shack without electricity or a phone. He suffered from a series of drug addictions, alcoholism, and was given a psychiatric diagnosis of bipolar disorder.

Van Zandt died on New Years Day 1997 from health problems stemming from years of substance abuse. A revival of interest in Van Zandt occurred in the 2000s when two books, a documentary film (Be Here to Love Me), and numerous magazine articles about the singer were written

This LP set features a live show recorded at the Tavastia Club, Helsinki, Finland in June 1993.

I’m Gonna Sing: The Mother’s Best Gospel Radio Recordings — Hank Williams

Hank Williams’ career was brief and incendiary. Most of those fortunate enough to have seen him in concert say that he was a captivating performer. Now, sixty years after his passing, we finally get a sense of Hank Williams onstage, adding another dimension to our scant knowledge of him. Still popular today, he’s a giant in American music.

DESTINED TO SURVIVE: The performances heard here were recorded on acetate discs (meant to be played only once or twice) that were shelved in 1951, and they gradually faded from common memory. In the 1970s the acetates were saved from the trash by a WSM employee and eventually given to Hank’s daughter, Jett. On behalf of the estate, Jett fought an eight-year battle to establish ownership, finally winning the right to release these recordings in partnership with Time Life.

“There’s magic in these radio shows, meant to be ephemeral and now captured for eternity, like a soap bubble preserved in a box. The result is a prismatic view of an iconic performer.”
