MRS will release a 2CD/100page book compilation titled ‘MEMPHIS RECORDING SERVICE: THE COMPLETE WORKS 1953 – 1955’ on the 25th November 2016.
The 100-page book chronicles Elvis’ short recording career there, from its humble beginnings (his personal acetate recordings from July 1953 and January 1954) through to the final Sun sessions in 1955. The full and comprehensive text is complemented by rare photographs and unseen pieces of documentation.
The 2CD’s contain the complete archival studio recordings from 1953- 1955: Elvis’ personal acetates, the Sun masters, along with rare session outtakes. The tracks have been painstakingly remastered and restored.
There are many highlights on this new release. All of the newly remastered tracks now sound much clearer and crisper. For instance, ‘That’s All Right’ has been taken from the ‘Mother’ master of the original Sun 45rpm. Also, for the first time on CD, ‘I Forgot to Remember to Forget’ appears without the false bass RCA added to it in the 1980s when tampering with the master tapes.
The remastering of Elvis’ first acetate recordings – ‘My Happiness’ and ‘That’s When Your Heartaches Begin’ (from July 1953) – has also well exceeded the sound quality ever achieved before on these primitive recordings. Furthermore, on the outtakes of ‘Blue Moon’, the painstaking audio restoration has removed the overload and studio hum present on previous issues, and made them sound much better than ever before. Indeed, all previous erroneous mastering faults and miscalculations have been rectified on this release, making it the best collection of these seminal recordings thus far.

Many rare recordings are compiled here, some for the first time on CD! We have demos by Clyde Stacy and Mack Allen Smith (rare SUN demo)! We have rare versions of Elvis songs from British and American low budget labels like Loren Becker, Hank Smith aka George Jones, or Paul Rich. There are original 1950s live recordings by Carl Perkins, Dorothy Collins and Lucy Lynn. Originals later covered by Elvis Presley are also included, for example the rare originals Hot Dog by Young Jessie, David Hill’s All Shook Up, and Just Because by The Shelton Brothers. Of course there are also well-known recordings such as Roy Hamilton’s I’m Gonna Sit Right Down And Cry Over You or Vince Everett’s version of Baby Let’s Play House he had recorded together with Elvis’ musicians Scotty Moore and Bill Black! Included is a booklet with notes to each single song and many color photos and illustrations! -

Presley Elvis - Guitar Man / Help Me (Purple vinyl) 7″ + CD (7 single/EP)
€33,00Quick ViewIn 1980 Felton Jarvis, Elvis’ record producer for the last decade came to the remarkable idea to freshen up some of Elvis’ recordings. The idea was to add total new backing tracks to Elvis’ voice. This resulted in the 1981 record release of ”Guitar Man”. You hate it or you love it is probably the right thing to say about the album. Felton was convinced Elvis would have loved it. The title track ”Guitar Man” written and first performed by Jerry Reed was one of the tracks considered for the album. Jerry Reed was part of the original recording by Elvis in 1967 and now Jerry Reed was back in the studio with Felton Jarvis to work on the new album. Besides the guitar work he also recorded a ”duet” version of the song.
This version never made it to the album but it probably should have. Felton finished the track most likely for his own pleasure or maybe it was considered to end up on the album. We probably will never know as Felton Jarvis sadly passed away early January 1981 even before the album came out. The second track on this 45RPM / CD combo is ”HELP ME”. The song written by Larry Gatlin of Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers. This track was not used on the GUITAR MAN album. This track has overdubs by the Gatlin Brothers and when you listen to it you will notice this version was probably not finished by Felton Jarvis, this is either an ”early version” or he never go to the point of finishing it due to his untimely death. Before the album would be released the idea raised to record a so called open-ended interview with Felton Jarvis for the radio stations. Disk Jockeys would be able to ask a question and Felton would answer the question that would be played from a record. The recording for this open-ended interview would take place somewhere in the last week of December. On December 16 1980 Jerry Flowers visited Felton to discuss the questions and prepare the interview. Jerry Flowers recorded this meeting as a test for the upcoming interview. The official interview never took place as Felton Jarvis suffered a stroke on December 19. Resulting in his death January 3rd 1981. RCA decided to release the informal recording on a record for Radio Stations.
This complete recording is now available on this cd. This 45RPM plus CD is available in yellow & purple vinyl.

The special was recently revisited in 2018 in the 5CD/2 Blu-ray Disc box set ’68 Comeback Special: 50th Anniversary Edition.
NBC’s new two-hour program will pay tribute to Elvis Presley’s “’68 Comeback Special,” recreating the iconic night with musical performances, a showcase of rare footage and interviews with Pricilla Presley and Steve Binder, the director of the original special, plus a special appearance from Lisa Marie Presley.
“Elvis All-Star Tribute” is being produced by Ken Ehrlich for AEG Ehrlich Ventures, LLC. Ehrlich is one of event television’s most prolific producers, from the annual Grammy Awards telecast, which he has produced since 1980, to numerous single artist and event specials including the Global Citizens Festival, which he produces for MSNBC.
