Evans Alexis - Girl Bait (LP)
€18,00Info: The fine producer of the La Noire record series, brought to you by Doghouse & Bone records, is offering you a fresh look at the tried and true soul sound:
Alexis Evans and band from Bordeaux, France. Originally just a trio, the band worked on writing all original music while on the road, taking much of their inspiration from Memphis sound and Stax records. The trio added organ and horns and headed on down to the Memphis of middle France to record at Doghouse & Bone studios, going live to tape ith ribbon mics and analog equipment.
The band knocked out this entire session in four days back to back! We borrow much from each other, the States and France.
Here, Alexis gives us a handsome fresh face, a tight band, and a great take on the 60’s groove. Soul has taken a front seat once again in the lexicon of young music listeners. The French are passionate about what they do… they smoke with passion, litteraly. I hope you will drop the needle on this Doghouse and Bone debut from Alexis and band. After a year playing hundreds of live dates, they offer you this release of original American soul music. Not unlike that cigarette, it is tasty, exciting to watch, and worth the time.

Hunter James Six - Hold On! (LP)
€27,00This may be James Hunters fourth album, but it is his first Daptone record. Produced by Daptones own Bosco Mann (Gabriel Roth) at Penrose Recorders (Daptone West) near his home in Riverside, California, Hold On! is a perfect portrait of an artist at the top of his game. James Hunter has been on the scene for enough years to acquire plenty of feathers in his cap. Billboard charts, Grammy nominations, and Van Morrison collaborations aside, he has earned an international reputation as a Rhythm and Blues troubadour for his command of the microphone both on stage and in studio.
This album, however, is something far deeper than just another notch in his belt. It is truly an artist s vision come to fruition. Though tunes like (Baby) Hold On, If That Don’t Tell You, and Stranded carry the buoyant energy, crackerjack arrangements, and tough soulful pulse for which the band has become renowned, the true treasures of this LP may lie in the deeper grooves. Rumbas, boleros, bossanovas, and easy rockers, each one swinging more than the last: This Is Where We Came In, Something’s Calling, A Truer Heart, Light of My Life, In The Dark no clichéd throwback nods to a-time-gone-by here. These are forever songs crafted with immaculate care and ingenuity, sung with an effortless balance of tenderness and grit. Many will be tempted to describe it as authentic, but the word really has no place here. Hunters words are truly his own and though at moments his voice may evoke Ray Charles or Sam Cooke, there lies an inherent naturalness in these songs that bucks any comparison past or present.

As one reviewer wrote, the band features sax so oily it should be scooped up, whacked on yer barnet and fashioned into a DA .
After spending a good year or more honing their set and finding out which songs make the girls dance (i.e. all of them!), their debut album Music for Chicken cemented the globe-spanning gang as the finest purveyors of this style of rockin and rollin rhythm n blues in the land. MFC Chicken - Solid Gravy (LP)
€20,00When Spencer Evoy arrived in London fresh from Canada, little did he know that his quest to reignite the spirit of the rock’n’roll sound of the American Northwest would start outside a chicken shop on the Holloway Road.
Walking down that fabled stretch of tarmac, he was struck by the greasy aroma of deep fried chicken and felt his belly ache. Realising his funds had all ben spent on the plane fare, he whipped out his saxophone and proceeded to busk outside the premises in the hope of a few quid to pay for his next meal. Hearing the sweet tones of rock’n’roll drift into his bedroom in the flat above the shop, Bret Bolton called out to Spencer. Their eyes met and they instantly realised they were musical brothers in arms. Days later, they had formed a band together, naming it after the now sadly defunct and derelict chicken shop where they met: MFC Chicken.
Joined by Ravi on drums, Parsley on organ and Alberto on guitar, the poultry-loving group soon began making a name for themselves, becoming one of the hottest garage rock’n’roll acts in London, setting clubs alight with their own red hot take on ”the music the Sonics were listening to”.
Having spent a good year or more honing their set and finding out which songs make the girls dance *ie. all of them!), their debut LP, ”Music for Chicken”, cemented the globe-spanning gang as the finest purveyors of Pacific Northwest rhythm and blues in the land.

With new bassist Fernando Terror on board, MFC Chicken have continued touring the world and found time to knock out a brand new album that is EVEN better than their debut.

Waterhouse Nick - Time`s All Gone (LP)
€29,00Myös upea vinyyli ja levyssä hienot paksut kannet 60-luvun USA levyjen tyyliin Jos JD McPherson putoaa, niin sitten tämäkin. Todella hieno uutuus Amerikasta!! For Waterhouse, his muse is the over-modulated sound of vintage ’50s R&B and Rebel Rock n’ Roll. His take on such a time-honored tradition evokes the back-alley thrill of New Orleans, Detroit and Memphis in their heyday. He combines an astute attention to detail recording on all vintage equipment with an honest desire to match the emotional impact of the music that inspires him.

Sweet Jeena And The Roomates - Same LP + CD (LP)
€20,00Sweet Jeena ja The Roomates-lauluyhtye englannista ovat äänittäneet levyllisen herkkää doo-woppia. Kyseessä on ainutlaatuinen suomalais-englantilainen yhteistyö, jossa Sweet Jeenan soundi ja The Roomatesin ’Dion and the Belmonts’ -henkinen Italo sugar doo-wop kohtaavat.
Osapuolet tapasivat ensikertaa lyhyesti The Roomatesin suomenvierailulla 2005. Kun The Roomates alkoi työstää uutta materiaalia, he halusivat mukaan jotain ennenkokematonta. The Roomatesin manageri keksi ehdottaa Jeenaa solistiksi muutamalle raidalle.
Kysymyksessä on 50-lukuromantiikan vaikutteista ammentava doo-wop-musiikki, jossa laulajilla on keskeinen rooli. The Roomatesien keskeiset vaikutteet tulevat italian-amerikkalaisesta doo-wopista, voimakkaana esikuvana on mm. Dion and the Belmonts.
Jeena tunnetaan myös Sweet Jeena and her Sweethearts -yhtyeestä, jonka ensilevy julkaistiin lokakuussa 2009.
