Blue Cats - Explorers of the Beat – Demos & sessions 1981-1983 (CD)€18,00
February 3rd 2023 will see the release of the awaited compilation of old demos and sessions from the bands personal tape collection.
What this collection represents is a young band searching for its own identity. The recordings themselves have been transferred from various old analogue tapes and are of course far from perfect in terms of production and sound quality.
The Catford sessions for instance were recorded on a 4-track tape machine in a front room, and while the BBC recordings benefited from a more advanced studio set up, the inevitable decay of analogue tape is unavoidable. But what the recordings do give is an insight into the bands journey towards establishing themselves as an independent force.

Burnette Rocky - The Son Of Rock And Roll + Bonus Tracks (CD)€22,00
Seldom has an album title rung as true as The Son of Rock and Roll. Rocky Burnette grew up around the music from day one. His father was rockabilly hell-raiser Johnny Burnette, whose mid-’50s sides for the Coral label as front man for the Memphis-based Rock ’n Roll Trio helped pioneer the genre. Uncle Dorsey Burnette, no slouch as a singer himself, was that ferocious crew’s bass slapper. Thus, Rocky learned from the best in the business when it came to the fine art of rocking the house-priceless knowledge that defined his 1979 debut LP, which contained the Top Ten hit ”Tired of Toein’ the Line.” For it’s first ever CD release anywhere in the world, The Son of Rock and Roll has been remastered by Nick Robbins from the original master tapes, features new liner notes by Bill Dahl with exclusive commentary from Rocky Burnette, and adds two bonus tracks, including Rocky’s previously unreleased cover of Sam Cooke’s ”Shake.”
Bontempi Marcel - Crawfish Troubles Cats & Ghosts (CD)€20,00
CD (Digipac & 16 page booklet).
Subtitled“ The (second) single compilation 2015 – 2021“ this record arrives 7 years after the first one, the highly sucessfull Witches, Spiders, Frogs & Holes album.
At this moment, most “with it” or “aware” folks in our retro scene have common knowledge and informed opinions of that strange musical alchemist known as Mr. Marcel Bontempi. His phenomenal career arc from the 1998 debut of 1960’s-beat band combo, The Montesas, to his “monster” solo hit of 2013, “Dig A Hole” (on Sleazy Records), has seen Marcel’s star rise ever higher as a steady stream of his popular & clever recordings have been snatched up (SOLD OUT!) by an ever-widening fan base. Live stage appearances by Marcel & his gal “Friday,” the effervescent Miss Ira Lee, and Marcel’s own “hillbilly” gang, Dr. Bontempi’s Snake Oil Company, at clubs & festivals throughout Europe (and even in Nashville and Las Vegas, USA!) have deservedly helped to spread the Bontempi infamy & infatuation far & wide.
So, HERE is the second compilation of the wizard of rhythm – full-packed with his 7″ output (all limited and sold out by now) from 2015 until 2021 and some unreleased songs and muscial themes for theatreplays among others.
The vinyl comes in a gatefold cover with lots of infos and photos and with an extra bonus 7″ of unreleased material. CD will be in a digipak plus 16 page booklet with all the info and all the tracks.
Wine A Billy Rollers - In The Booze Valley (CD)€13,00
I first met the Wine-a-Billy Rollers when my mate Brian Rockindad booked them to me up after he persuaded me to do a solo show in Portugal, about time really as I had been going there 15 years!
They had put a ton of work in learning my songs and we had a great night.
Then they asked to come to studio up in the Monchique mountains to make a record. They turned up one evening armed with litres of the red wine, we work hard on backing tracks all day and night, the next was spent doing the overdubs and vocals then they were gone!
Leaving me to mix and after a couple of small tweaks and adjustments it was sounding great!
Great mixture of styles by a great bunch of guys, let’s do it again soon!
Francine - Rumble at Club 16 – Radiomafia Live 1991 (CD)€18,00
Keikan päätti kappale mitä Francinen levyillä ei ole kuultu, hengästyttävä versio Elviksen ensimmäisestä singlestä ”That’s All Right”.
Francine jäi vuonna 2019 tauolle mutta siitä huolimatta 2022 on juhlavuosi – bändin perustamisesta on kulunut jo kunnioitettavat 35 vuotta!

Loistava uutukainen. Yksi vuoden kovimmista alan levyistä.

Bear Family Records® welcomes US rockabilly musician Marcel Riesco!
Marcel’s voice is reminiscent of a young Roy Orbison, but has a distinct style of his own.
In addition, he is considered a brilliant guitarist with a powerful rocking touch!
His songs are exceptional, with wonderful melodies and sophisticated arrangements.
10 songs on the vinyl LP; the CD and digital versions contain nine original songs plus five well-chosen cover versions.
Like in a good David Lynch movie, Marcel crosses boundaries and pushes his music further to new horizons.
’Patiently’ was recorded at Jack Clement’s Cowboy Arms studio in Nashville, TN.
Bear Family Records® is releasing these superb sounding recordings as an LP/CD combo and digitally worldwide on all relevant platforms!
Marcel Riesco’s brandnew Bear Family album, ‘Patiently’, further proves the point: Marcel’s velvet vocals paired with grand studio production reminiscing to the big Nashville Sound is a winning combination! If we had to describe his music, it would be pure 1950s rock and roll with a touch of 1960s honky-tonk. And naturally, we cannot overlook the unmistakable Roy Orbison feel he carries out so well.
Marcel’s voice is often compared to a young Roy Orbison, but he has his own style and that is very clear. He is also a mean guitar player and that further helps and solidifies his rockin’ style. His songs are unique, with delicious melodies and intricate arrangements. Marcel explains: “I learned how to sing with Roy Orbison songs. He has been my teacher, so naturally the influence is there. I don’t try though, it just comes out that way.” Incidentally, his role model is Roy Orbison …
Like in a good David Lynch film, Marcel dares to break into the mere surface and digs deeper, exploring all possibilities and taking his music farther, to a special place. “I sing directly to whoever might be listening, and I think they can feel this,” Marcel explains. This makes his music magical and unique.
Marcel’s new album, his first for Bear Family Records®, was recorded primarily at Jack Clement’s Cowboy Arms Studio in Nashville, TN. Clement was a producer at Sam Phillips’ Sun Studio, and the first record he worked on was Roy Orbison’s Rockhouse. “I decided to go to Jack Clement’s studio because I thought it was the only place where I could get the sound I wanted, played the way I wanted, and recorded the way I wanted. I didn’t want anything to go missing.”
The CD and digital editions feature 9 originals songs and 5 covers. The 10” LP contains 10 tracks. “I always choose songs that are close to my heart. If it’s an original, I work on it for months even after it’s written, to make sure it lingers. As for the covers, I really have to feel the song. In other words, it has to touch me a certain way, and I have to make it my own before I give it a go. We have included an Orbison-penned title called ‘You’ve Got Love,’ which both Buddy Holly and Johnny Wilson covered. I think my version came out much more rockin’ though.”
Marcel and the guys recorded 12 songs in 2 days. It was all played and sung live. We got some of Nashville’s top working musicians, who graciously rendered their service: Andy Gibson plays steel guitar, Dennis Crouch plays stand-up bass, Gabe Tonon plays guitar, Walter Hartman plays drums, Cody Campbell plays piano, Isabella Brown sings harmony and backing vocals.
