  • Burdon Eric And The Animals - Complete Live Broadcasts IV 1967-1968 (2CD) (CD)

There were the Animals and then there were the New Animals, referred to on record as Eric Burdon And The Animals though often known as Eric Burdon And The New Animals for added clarity. The line-up on the band’s 1967 LPs consisted of Barry Jenkins (drums), Danny McCulloch (bass), John Weider (guitar and violin) and Vic Briggs (guitar), with two members of Dantalian’s Chariot joining the band in ’68; Zoot Money (keyboards) and Andy Summers (guitar), who replaced Vic Briggs. Unlike on the sometimes staid BBC recordings, this group can be heard to really stretch out on these live recordings. Whether it was a desire to evoke a late sixties feeling of freedom or merely seeing what they could get away with, it doesn’t matter, this lengthy set provides us with a much greater understanding of what The New Animals were about. Concert recordings from German TV, Swedish Radio, US TV, Italian Radio, UK TV, Australian Radio. Includes 12/16 page booklet by Dave Stephens

  • Price Sisters - Between the Lines (CD)

For The Price Sisters, and their new album, Between the Lines, the familiar adage rings as truly as ever: the third time is, indeed, a charm. Rich in the bluegrass tradition, yet equally versed in country balladry, folk Americana, string bands, Gospel, and even indie blues-rock, the 15-song dazzler reflects a wealth of fresh ideas and precocious wisdom coursing through twin siblings, Leanna Price and Lauren Price Napier. With its arresting melodies intertwined in lush and dexterous harmonies, and supported by the finest of contemporary talent- not to mention some masterful special guests- this brilliant third effort from the duo not only revives and reflects the roots of the art form, but expands, with conscious reverence, upward and outward, budding with ambitious intent.

They brought in Ronnie McCoury to produce, and his song choices from a Black Keys’ cover to digging deep into his vault to find an unrecorded Cowboy Jack Clement album was a great combination for this project. Throw in legends Del McCoury and Peter Rowan as special guests, and this is one that is sure to elevate these ladies.

  • Penn Dan / Purify Bobby - The Inside Track On Bobby Purify (CD)

The Inside Track on Bobby Purify traces the arc of one of Dan Penn’s recording projects from his original blueprint to its ultimate commercial release providing the listener with a unique behind-the-scenes experience of the whole process of songwriting and production from Dan’s side of the desk – This CD package contains a sixteen-page booklet featuring photographs and interviews with Dan about the recordings.Inspired by Solomon Burke’s soul-deep interpretation of Don’t Give Up On Me in 2002, Dan Penn reunited with his co-writers of the Grammy Award-winning song for a new project. He instinctively knew that team had more great songs in the same vein ready to be mined, but to get them dug out, they needed to dedicate some time to head down south for some quality writing and equally good eating. The demos he recorded during these songwriting sessions with his collaborators Carson Whitsett and Bucky Lindsey are a joy to hear as they feature Dan’s voice at its absolute, soulful best.Normally, these private tapes would not be made commercially available, but when they are heard alongside the ultimate versions that he produced by Bobby Purify, the vision of Dan Penn the producer is self- evident. Dan had identifed Bobby as the ideal singer for this next production having been reintroduced to him after a gap of some twenty years. Back home in his Nashville studio in 2004, Penn cut ten new tracks based on the demos featuring what Jerry Wexler referred to as € Bobby Purify’s glorious, God-given voice € . Dan called on fellow southernsoul session stars Carson Whitsett, Spooner Oldham, Reggie Young, Jimmie Johnson, David Hood and Wayne Jackson to lay down the perfect foundation for what became Bobby Purify’s 2005 album – Better To Have It. Bobby had gone totally blind a few years before these Nashville recording sessions and sadly lacked the confdence to go out on tour with this great studio band as intended. Consequently, the album was deleted and has been unavailable.

  • Jones Tom - Live Duets 1969-1972 (2CD) (CD)

  • Allison Bernard - Luther’s Blues (2CD) (CD)

rriving as Ruf Records marks its 30th anniversary and more than three decades
since blues guitar master Bernard Allison debuted on record, Luther’s Blues celebrates
the music of Bernard’s father Luther Allison, a true legend of the Chicago blues and a
central figure in the label’s history. The two-disc set features 20 stellar tracks from
Bernard Allison, each one a Luther Allison composition previously released on one of
Bernard’s many albums. Allison himself hand-picked the songs for the collection,
which have been lovingly remastered by Pauler Acoustics, a renowned address in the
    audiophile scene.
Anyone who’s ever attended a Bernard Allison concert or listened to his recordings
knows how much it means to him to keep his father’s musical legacy alive. ”I made a
promise since day one – to myself and to my mom Fannie Mae Allison – that I’d
always include at least one or two of my dad’s songs on every album I record,” he
says. Bernard has delivered on that promise throughout his career, performing

Luther’s songs both at concerts and on record, while forging a funky and more rock-
oriented style that differs from the traditional blues he grew up around. His dad

supported him while he was still finding his own musical voice, openly encouraging
him to ”play it how you feel it” rather than copy what came before.

The sound of Scott Lundberg (bass guitar) and Dan Schroeder (drums) give the rhythm section a real, raw, and authentic feel.

Reissue. Originally released 2019 by Cop Records.

  • Fame Georgie And The Blue Flames - Live at the Ricky Tick – May & October 1965 (LP)

Brand new source versions of seventeen exciting live tracks from two shows at the Ricky Tick with the Blue Flames at their peak as a live band.

Back in 1965, the centre of the Mod Universe was London’s West End. Clubs like The Flamingo were pulling in hip young kids to see the new R&B acts. The biggest home-grown act was Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames, who incorporated all that the new breed wanted to hear and dance the night away to: R&B, Soul, Jazz and Ska. Out of town, clubs dropped ‘jiving’ and ‘Merseybeat’ nights in favour of the new sounds that were surging out of the city. In nearby Windsor, the only place to be if you were a mod was The Ricky Tick, and on May Day 1965, the Blue Flames were topping the bill. Fame was certainly a crowd puller. When he made his appearance at the club that night, he was fresh from having just finished touring with the first UK Tamla Motown revue.

  • Max Décharné - Teddy Boys: Post-War Britain and the First Youth Revolution (Kirjat)

    Hardback. 344 pages. English.

With their draped suits, suede creepers and immaculately greased hair, the Teddy Boys defined a new era for a generation of teenagers raised on a diet of drab clothes, Blitz playgrounds and tinned dinners. From the Edwardian origins of their fashion to the tabloid fears of delinquency, drunkenness and disorder, the story of the Teds throws a fascinating light on a British society that was still reeling from the Second World War. In the 1950s, working-class teenagers found a way of asserting themselves in how they dressed, spoke and socialised on the street. When people saw Teds, they stepped aside.Musician and author Max Décharné traces the rise of the Teds and the shockwave they sent through post-war Britain, from the rise of rock ’n’ roll to the Notting Hill race riots. Full of fascinating insight, deftly sketching the milieu of Elvis Presley and Derek Bentley, Billy Fury and Oswald Mosley, Teddy Boys is the story of Britain’s first youth counterculture.
