  • Various - Doop-a-Go-Go Party LP + CD (LP)

The new vinyl rallying cry intoned by El Vidocq!!!

Following in the footsteps of the ‘Voices Super Sound’ compilation, our hirsute DJ continues his exploration of melodious voices, his unearthing of out-of-the-ordinary harmonies, his tracking down of otherworldly choruses and choirs… A vocal theme that, coupled with the diabolical energy of vintage Rhythm’n’Blues and Black Rock’n’Roll, coyly winks at (without marrying) Gospel or even Doo-Wop… Deliciously malicious, thrillingly enthusiastic… and though several voices once again sing as one, the overall feeling here is somewhat more dangerous, even savage… ‘Doop-A-Go-Go’!!! The compilation gathers together rediscovered gems (by THE TURBANS, THE FIVE KEYS, TINY TOPSY AND THE CHARMS) with hot one-hit wonders (THE CHANTEURS, AVALONS, THE LIDOS, MAD LADS, THE MOON STONES). While some sing their faith (EVELYN FREEMAN), others conjure up less holy desires (THE VISIONS, THE PARAMOURS), but they all stand out for the surprising generosity of their vocals! Get ready to ‘Boom Boom’ to ‘Wop Wop’ and to ‘Ouh Ouuuhhh’!!! A vigorous ‘Come on everybody, yeah, now, yeah yeah…’ gets the compilation going, flowing from one thunderous and bewitching brew to the next…‘Doop-A-Go-Go’!!!

  • Various - Exotic-O-Rama Vol. 4 LP + CD (LP)

  • Various - Monster-O-Rama Vol. 3 LP + CD (LP)

No less than five vampire songs!!! Dracula is the big winner of the new Monster-O-Rama compilation, third of the name. But we also come across the abominable snowman, zombies, werewolves and even cavemen. Sacred bestiary. Funny, horror, illusions, tricks and a ghost train… El Vidocq gives us the idea of cardboard monsters again. The Cramps in a broke film by Ed Wood, Nino Ferrer embarked on a Méliès-style journey… Because music also has its little effects!!! Rockabilly, Surf, Novelty, Rock, Cha-cha-cha… it’s going to groove seriously for Halloween. Songs in English, in Spanish, two titles in French (oh la la)…. There is even a Mexican title: Fake monsters, all around the world, united! And not to spoil anything, the superb cover illustrated by Alexandre Clerisse will delight all fans of the genre!

  • Various - Strip-O-Rama Vol.4 LP + CD (LP)

From the most suave to the most electric, the music accompanying stripteases and other stripteases is adorned, when you think about it, with a staggering variety: The blues of course, whose languor fits perfectly with the exercise, but also rock’n’roll, rhythm and blues, jazz, rockabilly…

Spearhead of the compilations concocted by the mischievous El Vidocq, the “Strip-O-Rama” now has its fourth avatar. Not the slightest drop in speed. Eros deploys, to achieve his ends, an ever-expanding musical range. Judge for yourself: Beninese blues (Orchestra Typique ”El Rego”), pure exotica (The Enchanters), doo wop, pious (The Redwoods), or salacious (The Royal Jockers), Latin hot music (the aptly named ”Burleska” by The Ambassadors), or Latin smooth music (Googie Rene), be bop swing (Marlowe Morris Quintet), pop with amphets (”Magic Lover Man by Aki Aleong, originally from Trinidad & Tobago), weird surf music (”Widgit” by the Surfer’s ), etc, etc… Everything is taken from singles that are both suggestive and funny, published in the mid-50s and 60s – with singular peaks in 1958 and 1962!

Originally background music to accompany these undressings in due form, pieces which turn out to be in fact, and in every way, completely irresistible!!!

  • Hawkins Screaming Jay - The Night and Day of… (LP)

‘’Music shouldn’t shoulder or force its way into the album racks of any population, rather the population should induce itself to enjoy music and develop a personal taste, every soul should make up its own mind, a passion is all the greater if it has grown out of a cross selection of experiences. Generally, if a certain ’thing’ becomes a great success, that success is made greater by the mass persuasive mouth of the press, by some standards the more pop and the more publicised, as the more immoral. The popularity of popular music has opened up a gap that allows second rate material to introduced, this is unfortunate for I believe that bad music is much much worse than no music at all. Popularity sometimes frightens me because it tends to endorse bad music. Just look around at what people are praising in the arts, weigh up how much is incomprehensible with how much is pretended to be understood. Bach is, popular in a minority on his own merits, not by an infectious trend, that’s how I’d like it with me.’’
Many can sing in tune, few (less even) can scream. Jay Hawkins was and is unique, he enjoyed his monopoly which straddled the fence of Rhythm and Blues. He was young, and screamin’ was means to an end, this album isn’t the end, nor the beginning of. It is one side of Mr. Hawkins, his night and day.
    – From the back cover notes of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ second LP, NIGHT AND DAY, released in 1967 in the UK only. Up to now.

  • Various - Voodoo Mambosis And Other Tropical Diseases Vol. 1 (LP)

Limited to 500 copies! No repress! Transparent yellow vinyl! Hype sticker on front!

Voodoo Mambosis And Other Tropical Diseases is the start of a new series on Stag-O-Lee. Three volumes are planned.

The original records come from the record box of our esteemed friend Duke Jens-O-Matic, who has been a graphic
designer, internationally acclaimed DJ, collector and hunter for decades.
Jens-O-Matic was there when we first breathed life into Stag-O-Lee and he delivered four volumes of the wonderful Jim
Jam Gems 10” series. Each stylistically self-contained. He is currently working on further Jim Jam Gems volumes, but is
struggling with the liner notes because “one has an educational mission!”.
Now to the record at hand:
What does a friend of the obscure 7″ do when he already has everything in the field of Rhythm & Blues etc.? He is looking
for other fields of activity. Different countries, different music, different influences. So does our Jens-O-Matic. He made a
little trip around the world here, let his new love of cumbia flow in, mixed in a pinch of voodoo, reactivated some old blues
heroes, plus some exotica – it never hurts.
The great art is to combine these on paper disparate elements in such a way that something unique and consistently
exciting is created. Voodoo Mambosis And Other Tropical Diseases is the best example of this!
The cover, also designed by Jens-O-Matic, is a homage to the groundbreaking ’84 compilation Rockabilly Psychosis and
    the Garage Disease!

  • Various - Vocal Group Madness (LP)

Fans of the Vocal Harmony Groups that developed in the late 40s and 50s in the US know already that there was a lot more going on than what is nowadays subsumed under „doo-wop“ label. DJ, collector and expert DJ Crille now compiled a new album featuring rare and underground vocal-harmony and doo-wop songs from the late 50s and early 60s that is released on Stag-O-Lee. The album, titled „Vocal Group Madness – 14 Bam-A-LamVocal Group Rockers from the 50s and 60s“ showcases a selection of tracks that are hard to find rarely compiled.
The album is a compilation of obscure and definitely rocking tracks from the archives of some of the coolest vocal harmony groups of the era, including The Ideals, The Eventuals, The Neons, and Little Anthony and the Imperials. Most of these tracks were previously only available on hard-to-find vinyl records and have been carefully remastered to bring them to their full sonic potential.
The album features 14 tracks in total, each showcasing the raw power and vocal prowess that made doo-wop and vocal harmony groups such a popular genre during the era. From the driving beat of „Horror of the black museum” by The Nightmares to the soulful harmonies of ”Zing went the Strings of my Heart”, every track is a gem in its own right.

  • Various - Buzzsaw Joint – Cut 9/Double Agent 7 (LP)

Limited pressing – only 500 copies.
Buzzsaw Joint was born of a club offering Londoners the chance to revel in the sounds of deliciously trashy rock’n’roll in all its perverse forms. Club top-cat, Fritz, then took the primitive Buzzsaw sounds online with a series of savage Mixcloud mixes created by record fiends from all over the globe. Now the high-octane energy of Buzzsaw Joint has manifested into the physical form with a run of compilations on Stag-O-Lee Records. Get your ears around the weird’n’wild sounds of the extraordinary and inimitable Buzzsaw Joint!

Cut number nine reveals Double Agent 7’s top-secret tactics. Music festival stage regulars, the London-based DJ duo have a long-running monthly residency at one of the capital’s hippest bars where they make it their Mission45 to spin 50s/60s R&B floorfillers all night long. Not to mention their cross-border operations, hitting hotspots in Berlin, Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona and Bangkok. On top of all that, in collab with singer Annie Bea, under the code name DA7, they’ve released two of their own recordings, Dopamine Fiend and Luxury Kills. Bravo team, mission complete!

  • Various - Thirteen Roses Vol. 3 – Singing In A Male World (LP)

Third shift of girls going ahead to the power! If the previous volumes were organised by the colour of the skin, in this one we´ve given preference to girl groups over solo singers, but we didn’t want to be too strict, so you’ll also find some individualists.
We start off strong, The Ikettes and The Raelettes no less, the backing singers of Ike & Tina Turner’s and Ray Charles’ bands. Both vocal groups had a very important specific weight for the soloists they accompanied, as important that nobody could stop them from recording their own albums and singles as well.
Behind them a fairly wide and eclectic selection, from doo wop to garage, passing through pop and rock’n’roll. Is any musical genre too much for women? certainly not!
A sad note to finish. This is the last volume of this collection, which closes this circle in which we have brought together a total of 39 tracks, very varied in sound but with the common denominator of female voices in all of them.
    Que vivan las mujeres!

    Valentina Andrés

  • Various - Slow Grind Fever Volume 11 (LP)

Volume #11 in this amazing series of slow grinding R&B/Soul/Exotica tunes as they are being played in a club in Melbourne/Australia.

Around midnight on the last Saturday of every month, an assemblage of juiceheads, grifters, kittens, dandies and derelicts gather in a dimly-lit, smoke-filled room and dance together real slow. These are some of the records we dance to… Thanks to all the flute players and backing singers of yore for flavouring these old records up just like we like them. (Richie1250/Melbourne, 2019)
Compilation and liner notes by SGF-mastermind Richie1250.

  • Various - Primal Beats From The Basement – For Dancers Only (LP)

180g vinyl. Strictly limited to 500 copies!

For Dancer Only is the legendary club night of Bill Kealey, the hard-drinking, energetic collector and vinyl hunter from Dublin. Almost every weekend he is out and about with his 7″ vinyl case and makes the crowds happy. Since he’s been doing it for a few decades, he belongs to the absolute Champions League of those who deal with Rhythm & Blues of the 50s and all its varieties.
This is his first compilation and we claim it’s one of the best Stag-O-Lee has ever released.

”For Dancers Only was formed in 2004 because at that time in Ireland there wasn’t even one club where we could go and listen or dance to rhythm and blues records. In the past 18 years we’ve grown from a local club in our hometown of Wexford to a truly international one in Dublin. We’ve been lucky enough to have had some of the finest dj’s/collectors in the world come and play for us and the support from our clientele from all over the world is beyond humbling. This lp represents the kind of music you might expect to hear if you ever venture down the basement in Thomas House, Dublin for one of our club nights. It also keeps alive the legacy of these great artists and musicians who cannot ever be forgotten.”

  • Videls - A Letter From (Käytetty LP/12)

  • James Etta - Seven Day Fool (LP)

    Hienot gatefold kannet.

    On obi-strip reads:
This double LP compilation selects tracks from her early albums and 45s, and offers a glimpse to the immense talent of this legendary artist. From fabulous vocal jazz tunes like Stormy Weather or Palm Nuts to classics of the blues like Howlin’ Wolf’s Spoonful or Muddy Waters’ I Just Want To Make Love To You (James’ version became very popular when used in a very famour Coca-Cola TV commercial); from delightful ballads like At Last to dancefloor fillers like Seven Day Fool (an extremely popular tune in the Northern Soul scene), here is an excellent selection of songs that set Etta James as a very big name in Afro-American music already at this early stage of her career.
