  • Various - Introducing Dorothy Dandridge (CD)

    13,00

The life and (tragic) times of nightclub singer and actress Dorothy Dandridge make a fitting subject for a movie, and HBO deserves credit for funding this vehicle starring Halle Berry. The soundtrack for the movie features some of Dandridge’s best-loved tunes sung by Wendi Williams and backed by the Bill Elliott Swing Orchestra. Together they do a great job of re-creating these timeless jazz vocal numbers. Williams isn’t as rough around the edges as the real thing, but a great reissue on Verve can solve that need. As an added bonus, this soundtrack features Elmer Bernstein’s score for the movie. Using soft and dreamy strings and piano arrangements, the scoring legend helps to really set this film’s bittersweet mood. –Jason Verlinde
