  • Ritter Tex - Blood On The Saddle 4 CD Box Set (CD)

    470,00

During Tex Ritter’s fifty-year career, he was a success in just about every facet of show business. In 1932, while hosting very successful radio shows in New York, he was approached to record for the first time. This set opens with all of those early recordings, including his first giant hit, Rye Whiskey.

In 1936, Tex followed Gene Autry to Hollywood, and over the next ten years he became one of the popular singing cowboys and one of the biggest selling and most important artists in American music. The remainder of the songs in this 4-CD boxed set cover every phase of his rich and varied career up through 1947, including such traditional classics as Boll Weevil and Froggie Went A-Courtin’, as well as western favorites like A Ridin’ Old Paint/Git Along Little Doggies, A Melody From The Sky, The Hills Of Old Wyoming, and Singing In the Saddle. There are original versions of Ritter standards like Sam Hall, I’m A Natural Born Cowboy and Sing, Cowboy, Sing.

In 1942, Tex Ritter became the first Western artist signed to the newly formed Capitol Records, and he became one of the label’s first major stars. The first five years produced such hits as (I Got Spurs) That Jingle, Jangle, Jingle, I’m Wasting My Tears On You, There’s A New Moon Over My Shoulder, Jealous Heart, You Two-Timed Me One Time Too Often, You Will Have To Pay, Long Time Gone, Green Grow The Lilacs, Blood On the Saddle, and Have I Told You Lately That I Love You.

Many of these recordings were re-made over the years, but these are the classic cowboy originals from one of the great never-to-be-forgotten giants of the genre.  They’re included here with a __ page book by Packy Smith detailing Tex’s early career, stills from his movies, and many rare and unpublished photos from the dawn of the screen cowboy era.
