But what the hell is a Ziphead you ask?
Way back in 2006 three young punk brothers from St Albans, a grim satellite town of London, discovered 50’s Rock’n’Roll and Rockabilly and The Zipheads were formed. Initially known as The Runaway Boys, a rock’n’roll revue band, they played every sweaty pub, town hall and social club in the South East bashing out 50’s classics with a punk sensibility and more than a nod to the pub rock scene of the 70’s. Though too punk for some purists, The Zipheads soon found a home in the psychobilly scene where their punk-infused rockabilly made a lasting impression and has seen them play with such legendary bands as The Meteors, Guana Batz, Demented Are Go, King Kurt, Mad Sin and many more as well as being invited to play festivals across Spain, France, Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands.
In 2013 they self released their very well received debut album Prehistoric Beat, a thrilling mix of punk, rockabilly, reggae, ska and swing featuring their (almost) legendary version of Toots & The Maytals “54-46 Was My Number”.Of course, more touring followed and in 2015 The Zipheads signed a publishing deal with Bomber Music and released a 7” single ‘Just Don’t Seem To Care’ on top independent UK label Western Star Records.
They finished the year by heading into the studio to record the brand new album ‘Z2: Rampage!’ and we’re back to the beginning.

Mike Bell & The Belltones - The Beat that Can’t Be Beat LP + CD (LP)

Bändi on perustettu vuonna 2008 ja on uransa aikana onnistunut nousemaan tyylinsä tunnetuimpiin edustajiin Euroopassa. Bändi onkin tehnyt kymmeniä keikkoja suurimmilla rock’n’roll-festivaaleilla ja klubeilla ympäri maailman.
Yle näytti viime vuonna Mike Bell & the Belltonesin keikan kokonaisuudessaan Yle Teema -kanavalla. Keikka kuvattiin legendaarisella M1-studiolla ja on edelleen katsottavissa Yle Areena -palvelun kautta.
Yhtyeeltä on aiemmin julkaistu albumit ’Scream & Holler’ sekä ’Payback’, jonka mm. Helsingin Sanomat valitsi yhdeksi vuoden levyistä. Bändi on myös tehnyt yhteistyötä amerikkalaisen laulaja-legenda Huelyn Duvallin kanssa. Mike Bell & the Belltonesin levyt on julkaissut helsinkiläinen Goofin’ Records, joka on kansainvälisesti tunnettu laadukkaista roots-julkaisuistaan.
’The Beat that Can’t Be Beat’ on Mike Bell & the Belltonesin kolmas albumi. Sen nauhoitus alkoi viime vuonna Los Angelesissa Amerikan-kiertueen yhteydessä ja tänä vuonna nauhoitukset jatkuivat Lightning Recorders –studiolla Berliinissä. Albumi tehtiin kokonaan live-nauhoituksena käyttäen analogisia 50-luvun nauhureita, mikrofoneja sekä nauhoitustekniikkaa.
Levyn kappaleissa seikkaillaan tyylillisesti Buddy Hollyn, Carl Perkinsin ja Ricky Nelsonin jalanjäljissä eli varhaisen rock’n’rollin, rockabillyn ja pop-melodioiden innoittamina. Levyn kappaleista suurin osa on laulaja Miikka Siiran (Mike Bell) säveltämiä ja myös yleisö on kiinnittänyt huomiota näihin tyylitajuisiin ja tarttuvia koukkuja viliseviin kappaleisiin. Mike Bell & the Belltones kuulostaakin eniten omalta itseltään eli bändiltä, joka on täynnä svengaavaa rytmiä, pitelemätöntä energiaa sekä melodioita, jotka jäävät päähän soimaan.
