  • Various - She’s All Right With Me! Girl Group Sounds USA 1961-1968 (LP)

    27,50

For those who prefer to own their music on vinyl, here is an eclectic and gorgeously packaged selection of American girl group artefacts from the 60s. The album opens with Whirlwind by producer Gary Paxton protégées the Rev-Lons, the trio’s final recording but also their best, and closes with He’s All Right With Me by the Mirettes (the Ikettes incognito). Other highlights include the Supremes-style Cupid’s Got A Hold On Me by the Belles; the Sweethearts recording of Beauty Is Just Skin Deep, a song originally intended for the Ikettes; and Summertime Is Surfin’ Time by the Surf Bunnies three more terrific instances of the West Coast girl group sound. But not all the tracks here emanate from that part of the USA viz Mr Everything by New York-based Little Eva Harris and little-heard examples from the Pets, Tren-Teens and Lovettes, all from New Jersey. Felice Taylor here with her unissued-at-the-time Sing Me A Love Song graces the eye-popping jacket, which houses a colourful inner sleeve featuring a 3,000-word track commentary and an array of illustrations. Compilation and notes by Mick Patrick.

  • Presley Elvis - Southern Nights – 1975 Spring Tours (Käytetty CD)

    35,00

The Southern Nights” last one is a live compilation from the Spring Tours of 1975 and a companion set to ”Dixieland Rocks”. ”Southern Nights” is a soundboard recordings, meaning a recording at shows with semiprofessional equipment. There are several flaws on the original source tapes. ”Southern Nights” shows just how vast Elvis’s repertoire was at that time, with 19 songs not featured on ”Dixieland Rocks”.

A final note from Ernst and Roger:

2006 will be the last year where we will divide evenly between regular releases of ”soundboard” material and RCA material. We will be running out of studio outtakes, except for the Classic Albums releases. Research is always going on, but hope of finding the missing studio tapes is small. We have a lot of historical Las Vegas engagements and tours to cover through soundboards, and obviously an enormous number of classic albums to restore.”

  • Presley Elvis - On Tour Rehearsals (Käytetty CD)

    40,00

Elvis On Tour – The Rehearsals features recordings from RCA s studios in Hollywood in March 1972, which were conducted in association with that year s MGM concert film Elvis on Tour. The CD covers Elvis rehearsals for his upcoming tour, combining classic Elvis live repertoire with some of his new studio material of that time.

All the songs on this release are RCA recordings and not the MGM camera recordings that have been used on various bootleg CD’s. Elvis is in a great spirits and the CD includes a performance of Young And Beautiful.

There have been a lot of ’rehearsal’ Elvis CDs to come out, but this one, apropriatly titled, Elvis On Tour – The Rehearsals is by far the best. First of all, it almost sounds like a studio album.

The songs are mostly complete without a bunch of mistakes and a do-overs and most sound really great. There isn’t any joking around, each track pretty much jumps strait to the next song.

Link to shop Standing Room Only was the working title for the Elvis On Tour Movie. This CD featues studio recording some of which were performed live in On Tour.

His debut single for the label, a cover version of ’Rock Island Line’, and other releases between 1956 and ’58 left no trace. It was only with his move to Atco Records and the 1958 ’Queen Of The Hop’, which sold millions of copies, that his career took off. In the following years he landed a total of four Top 10 hits, including the number one hits ’Dream Lover’ (USA) and ’Mack The Knife’ from the Threepenny Opera (UK) – awarded with a Grammy!

Bobby Darin died in California on December 20, 1973. In 1990 he was inducted into the ’Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’ and nine years later into the ’Songwriters Hall of Fame’. Finally, in 2010 his life’s work was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • Morning Echoes of Detroit - Echoes Of The Gospel (LP)

    27,00

<founded in 1951 by independent record store owner and radio show promoter Ernie Young, Nashville, TN’s Nashboro Records recorded some of the most potent and forceful gospel music of the time period.

Although initially begun in response to overwhelming demand for gospel locally, Nashboro quickly became nationally applauded for it’s curatorial prowess (under the guidance of Rev. Dr. Morgan Babb of the gospel group, The Radio Four) and signature production style. The lightly-reverbed, clear sound of a Nashboro record is unmistakable. The Morning Echoes, led by Willie ”Slim” Ayers, formed in the late ’40s, released their first record in 1951 and moved to Detroit in 1952. They started regularly broadcasting over radio station WJLB and became a part of the Nashboro Records family several years later. Echoes Of The Gospel was originally released in 1967 and was the first Long Playing record from these Motor City favorites.

The Morning Echoes remained active in and around Detroit throughout the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. The project officially came to a close when leader Willie ”Slim” Ayers passed on September 17, 2013. This Third Man re-issue came into our world when TMR artist and friend Kelley Stoltz sent a well loved copy of Echoes Of The Gospel in gratitude for having him play the Third Man Pressing Grand Opening Party. His note read ”Thanks for the fantastic experience! This one is a spirit lifter, In The Garden Of Eden does it for me. XO Kelley”.

Third Man is now proud to cast a broader light on the beautiful Echoes of the Gospel and the Detroit-Nashville connection that it embodies. It is transferred with reverence directly from the original 1967 stereo mixes and remastered by Warren Defever. LP Packaging: Reverse Board Matte LP jacket, standard weight vinyl.

  • Conway Lee - I Just Didn’t Hear (Early Roads 1969-1973) (CD)

    24,00

Lee Conway has done a lot of travelling in his time. Born in wartime Poland (immigrating to Australia at age three and then roaming the rough inner city streets of 1950s Melbourne), Lee was never taken with music until he heard something he could really relate too – Johnny Cash. Soon Lee began his own truck-driving business and hit the road (chewing through tapes of Cash and his other favourite Lee Hazlewood). His earthy baritone made him a natural for country music and his first 45 release (recorded on a whim) became an overnight Top Ten sensation in 1969.

Conway never looked back – becoming an icon of rough-edged but thoughtful antipodean country music – born from Cash and Hazlewood but with a urbane perspective and introspective atmosphere all his own. Before international success, trucker-themed LPs (from a former real-life trucker) and prime-time TV shows, there was a raw Lee Conway – poetic, insightful with just a little magic, mystery and Great Southern Land Gothic Noir. Collected for the first ever time here are Lee’s seminal early 45s, key album tracks and a previously unreleased 1969 demo. 26 tracks.

    • Icon of Australian 1970s country music gets his first ever official compilation of sophisticated and atmospheric forgotten early sides/rare cuts.
