  • Various - Boss Black Rockers Vol 6 – Mardi Gras Rock (LP)

    22,00

Dear Cats and Kittens, dig this cool array of killer black rock and roll from the ”Golden Age” of American music. So many similar projects were devoted through the years to white rock and rollers (even the most obscure and unknown) and very little to the people that not only ”originated” this music and played it long before white musicians started to fool around with it. They also continued to play it when black ”Rhythm and Blues” music was suddenly re-named ”Rock and Roll” to appeal to a wider white audience in segregated America and became a multi-racial genre in the mid-1950s. Some tunes on ”Boss Black Rockers” are pretty well-known and some are pretty obscure – even if a lot of those were actually pretty popular in the 1950s among both black and white Rock and Roll fans. Most of the artists in this series were actually household names in the ”Rock and Roll World” of the ’50s and early ’60s. I sure hope with this great series to finally set things straight. After the massive success of this series on CD, we finally decided to release ”Boss Black Rockers” on vinyl LPs, cherry-picking the best songs ( a very hard task) from each and every volume. Dig it!

    20,00

    Limited to 500 copies!

Here’s Dusty Ballroom’s 3rd set of sides – a rather eclectic, swingin blend of some 1940s Jump Blues, 50s exotic Mambo, kinky DooWop, wild eastern Surf and Hawaiian Rock´n´Roll, a coupla burlesque Instros and even a bit of groovy Twist and Soul.
This record is part of an on-going series dedicated to some often overlooked golden age dancefloor thrillers. We dearly hope you dig this as much as we do and perhaps you will tune in on the next volume as well..
Elmo Lewis is part of the DUSTY BALLROOM Collective, shakin the Berlin analog music scene since 2008. As mentioned on Volume 1 (have you got it yet?), over time we need to give nods & winks to the staff of several venues, lots of live artists wonderfully dedicated to old music, a few select DJs and of course those jumpin & jivin cats & kittens oddly enough returning to our all-nighters – you all rock and roll!
For the present selection Elmo wishes to especially thank Adam, Laura, Nathaniel & Franziska for their ongoing support to dig in the Dust and helping keep the vibes up and the Time Tunnel’s eyelid open.

  • Berry Chuck - Toronto Rock ’N’ Roll Revival 1969 (2LP) (LP)

    (Gatefold LP Jacket, Colored Vinyl)
    Paremmilla soundeilla kuin koskaan aikaisemmin.

Double swirl colored vinyl LP pressing. Live archive release. Chuck Berry, the songwriter and guitarist now known worldwide as the Father of Rock & Roll, came from humble beginnings. The complete Concert. Mastered from the Analog Tapes: There was no shortage of historic rock music festivals in 1969, from highs of Woodstock to the crashing lows of Altamont. Meanwhile, interest was steadily building on another front. A full-fledged 1950s rock and roll revival was brewing, and the idiom’s pioneers were experiencing a Renaissance. No longer viewed as over-the-hill relics, they stood as vital sources of real rock and roll. Combining the two contrasting demographics at one event was a rare sight to behold, but the Toronto Rock ’n’ Roll Revival 1969, held that September 13 at the University of Toronto’s Varsity Stadium, represented that unlikely hybrid. That afternoon the Father of Rock & Roll returned to lead the apostles of rock into the next decade. After decades of inferior releases, for the first time, this historical concert is presented in it’s entirety.

When the rhythm of Rock and Roll crossed the Mexican border in 1955 it wasn’t through young bands but by experienced musicians used to play anything new coming from the other side of Rio Grande. In the case of Rock and Roll, this gave birth to various ways of understanding and playing it; some of them different to the original and others loyal to it, but with a Latin flavour.

  • Various - Rock And Roll Senza Tregua in Italia (LP)

    20,00

October 1956, in Italy a movie called “Rock Around The Clock” is released.
The Italian given title is “Senza Tregua il Rock’n’Roll”: it’s the beginning of the Italian rock’n’roll era, at least on records and films.
Before this, Swing music was widely diffused, and played in small venues in the cities. For instance, Fred Buscaglione recorded and released, on 78 single, the first version of his hit “Teresa non sparare” in 1955, and record like these, with an uptempo jazzy rhythm, were the beginning of a musical revolution that appeared the following year.
In my diggings for Italian records of the 50s, I came upon a 7” EP by Quartetto Fineschi called simply “Rock and Roll”: the runout groove etching on this states a date, “23-9-1956”. It was recorded in September, one month before that movie hit the cinemas across Italy.
Frankly, I’m not sure this is the very first rock’n’roll record to be released in Italy by an Italian band, but, apart from the most famous early rock singers (Celentano, Mina, Little Tony), this was a real discover to me, and had an incredible beat indeed! I decided, then, to begin a hunt for rock’n’roll records released here in the 50s and early 60s: what you’ll find on this El Toro output is some of the weirdest and catchy rock’n’roll records I’ve ever heard, and they surely add some unknown pieces to the early Italian rock history.”
