A vault’s worth of solid gold treasures! Nearly all the cuts included here are legendary, high-dollar 45s, presented in their original—and danceable!—mono mixes. The sound of thousands of dollars’ worth of revered R&B, from Sundazed! The legendary Florence Greenberg was one of very few women who envisioned, launched and ran a hugely-successful record company. She liked to say that she was “a white woman in a black business who couldn’t carry a tune!” But, she sure knew talent: talented artists, songwriters, producers, sales and promo people. For many amazing years, Mrs. Greenberg helmed a label comparable in size to Motown: not quite a major, but much more substantial than most indies. Scepter Records grew and flourished by cultivating an amazing network of independent writers and producers: Burt Bacharach and Hal David, Luther Dixon, Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson, Van McCoy, and many, many others. And now, compiled here are 15 exhilarating Scepter recordings – all incredible dance-floor sides (nearly $3k of original wax!), lovingly pressed onto one glorious album. Viva, Florence! Viva, Scepter Records! Dim the lights, turn this soulful platter up and get ready to move!!!

  • We the People - Too Much Noise (LP)

Occasionally we have a little extra fun with our vinyl and will spontaneously create a short run of existing records on cool colored vinyl! Garage fans agree: We The People’s raging, tough-as-nails punk tracks “Mirror of Your Mind” and “You Burn Me Up and Down” rate among the era’s best. But believe it or not this band was capable of even more. Along with the above two hammer-down classics, Too Much Noise collates everything the seminal—and surprisingly diverse—Central Florida outfit cut for the Challenge label during the band’s mid-’60s heyday, including the raga-rock fave “In the Past” (covered by the Chocolate Watchband) and the tender folk-rock ballad “(You Are) The Color of Love.” Sourced from the original analog masters, here are We the People’s three scarce and essential Challenge single sides plus material recorded for the label but unreleased at the time—all of it in raw, skull-crushing fidelity on CD and high-definition vinyl. Tracks on this release also appear on the following compilation :Garage Beat ’66 Vol. 6: Speak of the Devil… CD

  • Uniques - Uniquely Yours (LP)

    20,00

A decade before he was topping the country charts, Joe Stampley fronted one of the deep south’s most legendary and rockin’ ’60s combos, the Uniques. Once signed to Shreveport, Louisiana-based Paula Records, the Uniques made waves nationally on their very first release, “Not Too Long Ago.” That pop classic (faithfully/recently covered by Nick Lowe) is just one of many highlights of their ’66 debut LP, Uniquely Yours. According to the master tape, this record was originally going to be tagged The Uniques in Action; a shelved album title that could not have been more apt. Finally reissued (and in fabulous mono, to boot), this is southern rock ’n’ soul at its finest; a real mélange of styles that swings wildly from deep-fried garage rock, frenzied frat-beat, infectious Stampley-penned pop, and gorgeously soulful ballads. From Presley and Gene Vincent to any Justice label ’60s garage band worth mentioning, southerners have always littered their LPs with this latter fare. But when it comes to delivering a soulful ballad, Joe Stampley is up there with the very best of ’em. Uniquely Yours includes the group’s all-time biggest regional hit, a cover of Art Neville’s “All These Things” (in its original mix, unadorned by string overdubs) and a “Georgia (On My Mind)” that simply blows away all other white boy soul renditions. But make no mistake, this is a largely uptempo set marked by the ferocious punk pace of “You Ain’t Tuff,” updated rockabilly funkiness of “Fast Way of Living,” blistering guitar workouts like “Strange,” plus some of the best damned covers ever waxed. For a positively unique album experience, Sundazed includes the classy period sleeve design from the original Paula release.

  • Rock Ola - Beautiful Rough – Best Of (CD)

    10,00

Suomen rock-kuninkaita on valittu jo 50-luvun lopulta lähtien ja onpa joku saattanutjulistaa itsensä kuninkaaksi ilman valintaakin. Rock-Ola ei aatelista titteliä oletarvinnut, vaikka lukuisten ihailijoittensa mielestä kuuluukin kuninkaiden joukkoon.Rock-Ola on antanut musiikkinsa puhua puolestaan ja jättänyt kilpailut niille jotkaeivät omin avuin pärjää.Olli Ola” Pihlajanmaa sai rokkikeuhkokuumeen monien ikäistensä tavoin 70-luvunlopun teinivuosinaan. Elviksen vaikutusta on hänen laulussaan mahdotonta ollahuomaamatta, vaikkakaan mihinkään imitointiin Ola on viisaasti osannut ollasortumatta. Maailmassa on ollut vain yksi Elvis, mutta ei ole toista Rock-Olaakaan.Näin on myös Olan toisen suuren vaikuttajan, jazzlaulajatar Billie Holidaynkohdalla. Holidayn vaikutus tuo Olan tulkintoihin sellaista herkkyyttä, jotaharvemmin rock’n’rollin laulajilla kuullaan.Soittajanuransa Ola aloitti rumpalina, mikä kuuluu edelleen hänen laulunsaoivaltavassa rytmityksessä. Maanlaajuiseen maineeseen Ola sai kosketustasuosikkiyhtye Johnny And The New Dodgersissa, mutta kun Suomen suosituimmanrockabilly-yhtyeen Teddy And The Tigersin johtaja Teddy Guitar pyysi häntärumpaliksi uuteen Lonestars-ryhmäänsä, alkoi Ola saada ansaitsemaansa huomiota myössolistina. Vuonna -81 Ola äänitti englantilaisen, vankkaa suosiota rockabillypiireissänauttineen The Blue Catsin kanssa ensimmäisen oman albuminsa. Lopputulos olihuippuluokkaa, mutta kohtalo painoi peukalonsa alaspäin. Levy-yhtiö Rebel ehtikaatua ennen levyn ilmestymistä ja maailmanvalloitus jäi haaveeksi. Vasta vuonna ’96- viitisentoista vuotta levyn äänitysten jälkeen Jungle Records julkaisi kappaleetCD:llä Slap That Bass.Vaikka Rock-Ola tunnettiin mestarillisena laulajana ja uskolliset ihailijat pysyivätyleisössä, jäi levytysten määrä yllättävän vähäiseksi. Vähäiselle määrälle toi tokipositiivista vastapainoa niiden korkea laatu. Seitsemäntuumaisia vinyylilevyjäilmestyi eri yhtiöiden kautta parin vuoden välein ja Ola jatkoi yhteistyötä mm.Bippin’ Pete Trion, Lost Soulsin ja Butterfingersin kanssa. Vuonna -90 Rock-Ola tekiuuden aluevaltauksen liittyessään instrumentaaliyhtyeenä tunnetun The Charadesinlaulusolistiksi. Perinteisestä rock’n’rollista siirryttiin reippaasti melodisempaanrockiin, mikä jäi pysyvästi kuulumaan Olan tulkinnoissa jatkossakin.Sooloura sai uutta puhtia lopulta vuonna -96, kun Bluelight Records julkaisi albuminYesterday Is Gone. Se toi esiin Rock-Olan entistäkin monipuolisempana tulkitsijana, mutta valitettavasti levyllä soittanut kokoonpano jäi jälleen lyhytikäiseksi. KunOla sai vihdoinkin kasaan uuden yhtyeensä Rock-Ola And The Freewheelers, nousi seoitis suomalaisen rock’n’rollin kärkikaartiin. The Freewheelers3-4, 13 & 19 Rock-Ola With The Blue Cats7-8, 16 & 22-23 Rock-Ola & The Charades10 Rock-Ola With Johnny Filter Band12 & 25 Lonestars18 Rock-Ola With The Butterfingers20 Falcons26 Rock-Ola With Boppin’ Pete Trio27 Rock-Ola With Olli Haavisto”

The short-lived Viva Records label was one wildly eclectic outfit. Helmed by hitmaker Snuff Garrett, this Los Angeles-based imprint targeted the teen marketplace with a series of extraordinary garage / psych / pop singles. The label’s command of popular styles prevailed across these Top 40 hopefuls, ranging from the stomping beat of the Shindogs to the psych-fuzz nirvana of the Sound Sandwich. And there’s Class of ’66 garage-grunge from the Wailers and the Second Helping (yes, that’s a teenage Kenny Loggins howling at the moon on the positively snarling Let Me In,” among other selections). With a supporting cast led by Leon Russell and J.J. • Campbell Glen - Sings For The King (CD)

    10,00

Glen Campbell Sings for The King arrives on November 16, premiering never-before-released recordings made by Campbell for his friend Presley.  It will be released on CD, & LIMITED EDITION VINYL LP.

Between 1964 and 1968, Glen was engaged by the songwriting team of Ben Weisman and Sid Wayne to record fully-produced studio versions of songs intended for Elvis.  The King recorded more songs by Weisman than any other songwriter, cutting 57 of the composer’s tunes.  Glen was asked to match Elvis’ pitch and sound on these luxury demos; naturally, he also played guitar on the sessions.

Twelve of the 18 tracks on Glen Campbell Sings for The King were picked up and recorded by Elvis, including the title songs from his movies such as Spinout, Clambake, and Easy Come, Easy Go, the latter of which is streaming now.  It’s also available as an “instant grat” download to purchasers of the digital version of the album.

Presley himself appears on the album with the opening track, a posthumous duet on “We Call On Him.”  The gospel song is joined by country numbers, ballads, and rock-and-roll.  (One of the tracks never recorded by Elvis, “Love on the Rocks,”  left Neil Diamond free to make the title his own years later!)   The two artists first met as early as 1956.  Author Alan Light writes in the liner notes, “With their genre-bending musical exploration and rural Southern roots, it’s no surprise that Glen Campbell and Elvis Presley formed something of a mutual admiration society.”  Capitol also quotes Campbell:  “Elvis and I were brought up the same humble way, picking cotton and looking at the north end of a south-bound mule. I saw him in the rough [at an early concert]…He was so electrifying.”  As Campbell ascended to the ranks of Los Angeles’ top session guitarists, he played on one memorable Elvis track: “Viva Las Vegas.”

Glen and Elvis remained friends throughout their lifetimes, and Campbell even continued to record for Weisman and Wayne after his breakthrough to superstardom in 1967.  This tribute to the remarkable talents of both artists arrives on November 16 from Capitol/UMe.

JP Harris has a secret: his name is actually ”Squash.” Long before Harris became a well regarded honky-tonker, he used his childhood nickname while playing archaic ”old-time” American tunes at underground fiddlers’ gatherings, engrossed in this punkish folk music world. Don’t You Marry No Railroad Man, his debut recording of traditional music under the moniker JP Harris’ Dreadful Wind and Rain, features ten tracks spanning the breadth of American old-time repertoire. Harris wades between ancient ballads that traveled from the British Isles to Appalachia like ”Barbry Ellen,” to droning banjo ditties such as Hobart Smith’s entrancing ”Last Chance,” here played on one of Harris’ coveted homemade banjos. Harris also works as a serious carpenter which adds a unique authenticity to his versions of the classic ”House Carpenter” and lesser known ”The Little Carpenter.” Alongside Harris’ haunting vocals, the album prominently features the low-tuned fiddle and harmony singing of his longtime friend and Old Crow Medicine Show member Chance McCoy, who produced the record at his West Virginia studio in an old barn. On this sparse and arresting recording, Harris isn’t mining his roots as a marketing pitch, he has the chops to back it up. In fact, this collection of songs made him who he is today. Welcome home ”Squash.”

  • Ruby Ann - Mama’s Back (10``LP)

    9,90

It’s been a long time since we rock ‘n’ rolled! Ten years to be exact when considering Ruby Ann’s seminal record, Mama’s Back. Celebrating a decade in existence, parent company Rhythm Bomb Records, saluting their own milestone of twenty years in business, is affording special treatment to a “bestselling” album by issuing Mama’s Back on vinyl. Released on wax for the first time therefore, Mama’s Back lives up to its title and gets a chance to do it all again in 2023. Deserving of such attention, and not only for its previous sales figures generating mindboggling statistics at the end of the financial year, no, more importantly because of the critical acclaim Mama’s Back received upon its initial release in the UK and Europe for its contents of innovative renditions of vintage period songs, and with a smattering of original compositions as well. When experiencing Mama’s Back for the first time, it transports the listener to a land and time that aficionados of the golden years of music (namely the 50s) never forgot but, unfortunately, never had the opportunity to witness first-hand either. Step forward Ruby Ann and her interpretation of a landmark period in the history of music by reproducing an authentic 50s sound, but also stamping her own personality throughout Mama’s Back. A large part of her authority is contained and demonstrated by a voice that is lined in silver and gold, and with comparisons made with several of the pioneers of rockabilly and associated female rockers with, most conspicuously, Wanda Jackson. With plenty of fire in the belly as illustrated by many of the tracks chalked up on Mama’s Back, it is often a full-blooded and gutsy affair. A confident record, and one that, despite serious setbacks on the road to seeking a lasting connection with the opposite sex, it knows what it desires. The song titles alone provide plenty of clues as to the Heartbreak Hotel here, but in reply, Mama’s Back is not a self-pitying cry, nor is it weak to the touch because it’s never unwitting to the experiences unfurling. In fact, it can be defiant, a record that’s not afraid to move on and seek fresh experiences as indicated by the Elvis inspired, and Eddie Bush penned, ‘Baby I Don’t Care’, to glimmer of hope via noirish edge generated by the instruments of ‘Your Mama’s Here’, before finding solace during a souped-up reading of Lance Roberts’ ‘I’m Gonna Have Myself A Ball’. The omission of four tracks from the original album release, does not diminish the overall quality and listening experience of Mama’s Back. By formatting the track list to vinyl, the ten songs scrutinised and selected for their inclusion, provides an even closer insight to the melancholy at the heart of this record. With experienced hands-on deck including Axel Praefcke (production) contributing ‘Knocked Out, No Love’, and additional drums/guitars, Mama’s Back was recorded at Lightning Recorders (Berlin) with rest of assembled cast of Carsten Harbeck (Bass), Ike Stoye (Guitar/Piano), Michael Kirscht (Lead Guitar), and Round Up Boys (Backing Vocals). Despite a successful working relationship, Mama’s Back is, and remains, Ruby Ann’s record because of the presence she exerts over this album by injecting its contents with a sincerity, and therefore giving the impression of these songs as entirely her own creations. Remarkable! And, even now, Mama’s Back still resonates with a fiery passion that renders it a thoroughly compelling listen and one that refuses to be ignored as it hollers, “Mama’s Back!”.

  • Cherry Casino And The Gamblers - Lets Play Around (10``LP)

    9,90

Issued for the first time on vinyl is Berlin’s hot ticket for authentic rhythm and blues, Cherry Casino and the Gamblers’ Let’s Play Around. Reason to celebrate therefore, but also as a mark of respect for an album that, upon its initial release of CD only, shifted more units than a baker’s bag squeezed full of German strudels, that’s how much it was appreciated. Given that the album’s parent company, Rhythm Bomb Records (RBR) is marking its own anniversary of twenty years in business, and still going strong with a conveyor belt of new and established artists making records, owner and creator of RBR, Ralph Braband gave the greenlight for reissuing Cherry Casino and the Gamblers’ debut long player. With the track list scrutinised over and whittled down to a manageable number fitting for a vinyl release, the listener will experience a band in their infancy yet sounding like seasoned professionals. Such experience is down to the personnel involved, with each and every member of “the Gamblers” having lived and breathed rockin’ music from an early age, and frequenting numerous combos over the years. Comprising therefore of frontman himself, Cherry Casino (real name Axel Praefcke) on vocals and guitar, in addition to Ike Stoye (Saxophone), Michael “Humpty” Kirscht (Rhythm Guitar), Torsten Peukert (Drums), and “Lucky” Lehmann (Bass), Let’s Play Around was conceived in 2006. From raw and primitive beginnings in the form of ‘Huh Baby’ with its shuffling rhythm and ringing guitar striking a definite chord, to rather unique presentation of storytelling that is mighty fine ‘Did You Hear That Door Slam?’, before arriving at the heart-breaking realisation of an untenable relationship depicted during ‘You’re Too High For Me’, with conformation arriving in harmonious backing vocals reminiscent of The Jordanaires, for example, rounding off this track in style. From its prime position, Let’s Play Around reads like a menu consisting of all the ingredients when experiencing a rollercoaster ride of emotions that will be familiar to many, and one that even provides a moment of respite midway through with ‘A Bar Called Moe’s’. With all the heartache involved, the album, Let’s Play Around eventually finds consolation during its finale of first, Chuck Berry-esque intro and celebratory ‘Girl Next Door’, to the loose feel of rhythm and blues and Cherry Casino dominating upfront via the title track, before finally wiping the blues away with a lively, finger-snapping rhythm of ‘Rockin’ and Rollin’. A moment in history which, from its home of Lightning Recorders, now resurfaces in 2023 and is poised to relive the gamut of emotions expressed during its first wild and heady run of rhythm and blues, Let’s Play Around receives a deserved opportunity to do this all again, and also offers a chance for those new to the sounds and vision of Cherry Casino and the Gamblers to experience traditional rhythm and blues, and hear an album in all its natural glory. Bestowed the vinyl treatment, Let’s Play Around is a remarkable debut and one worth celebrating. Enjoy! Nathan Olsen-Haines (Rhythm Bomb Records)

The most obscure of Buck’s live releases was his April 1970 show in Oslo, Norway that featured Don Rich with the Buckaroos, Buck’s son Buddy Alan and the Hagers. Fiery and intense, it reflects that unique early ‘70s period when Buck was experimenting and broadening his sound beyond his old style. With only a couple thousand copies pressed for the Norwegian market, this was Buck’s rarest album.
