  • Heinz - The Heinz Sessions Vol.1 – Joe Meek’s Tea Chest Tapes (10``LP)

    20,00

THE SECOND RELEASE FROM JOE MEEK’S LEGENDARY TEA CHEST TAPES!

PREVIOUSLY UNHEARD VERSIONS, OUTTAKES AND DEMOS!

ALL IN SUPERB, PREVIOUSLY UNHEARD CLARITY, TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM JOE MEEK’S OWN TAPE ARCHIVE.

TAPE WORK AND MASTERING BY MARTIN NICHOLS.

SLEEVENOTES BY ROB BRADFORD, EDITOR OF THE JOE MEEK SOCIETY’S ‘THUNDERBOLT’ MAGAZINE.

Having been part of The Tornados (and their smash hit ‘Telstar’), Heinz was quickly singled out for solo stardom by Joe Meek, whose eye he had caught. Tailored by Meek in the classic pop impresario tradition, usually with material written expressly for him, Heinz and his remarkable bouffant blond hairstyle set out to take the world by storm in 1963, just as Beatlemania changed the rules entirely.

We present selected highlights from the many hours of recording Joe Meek dedicated to his protégé between 1963 and 1966, including the hit single ‘Just Like Eddie’ and classic album tracks, alongside the unreleased ‘Voices In The Wind’.

Featuring early takes, guide tracks and guitar sessions, Side One provides a fascinating insight into the hard work Meek was prepared to invest in his pet project.

Side Two, on the other hand, takes the listener back to the beginning of the process, with three of Joe Meek’s home demos and a Dave Adams guide track, all of which were later re-recorded by Heinz.

Hand-picked for their unprecedented degree of insight into Meek’s working processes and his relationship with Heinz, and presented with track-by-track notes from ‘Thunderbolt’ magazine’s Rob Bradford, ‘The Heinz Sessions Vol 1’ is a must-hear for fans of Meek and Heinz, British pop historians and enthusiasts, and anybody with an interest in the evolution of recording techniques and the mysterious alchemy that goes on behind those studio doors.

  • Pekka Tiilikainen & Beatmakers feat. Graham Johnson & Juho "Kihara" Pitkänen - Live at the HUK – The Renegades Revisited Show 2021 Live (10``LP)

    12,50

    10″ vinyyli-EP ilmestyy 18.02.2022.

on tullut osa suomalaisen populaarimusiikin laulukirjaa. He palasivat 1990-luvulla. Hysteria oli samaa
luokkaa, lavalle lentävät pikkuhousut olivat vain kolme kertaa suurempia.
Viimeinen Renegade Graham Johnson vierailee Suomessa säännöllisesti. Hän on aito 1960-luvun
brittiläinen beatmuusikko, jonka soitossa on sellaista selittämätöntä x-tekijää, jota ei voida oppia kirjoista tai
    koulupenkillä.

  • Various - Beat From Badsville – Even More Trash Classics From Lux & Ivy`s Vinyl Mountain Vol. 4 (2LP) (10``LP)

    15,00

Brought up on the radio shows of the legendary rock ’n’
roll DJs, the moondogging Alan Freed, Mad Daddy and,
later, the ghostly Ghoulardi, it was hardly surprising that
The Cramps’ Lux Interior and Poison Ivy began trawling
the thrift stores for juvenile delinquent tunes, lip curling
bad boy rock ’n’ roll, strange exotica, bizarre novelty
45s, dysfunctional doo wop, psychedelic weirdness and
instrumentals made by madmen. In America in the 1950s
and 1960s there seemed to be small town versions of
such vinyl madness everywhere that, by the 1970s were
remaindered and to the majority of people unwanted. To
the fledgling Cramps this was nothing short of heaven.
The duo filled their house with novelty memorabilia,
schlock horror furniture and a record collection to die
for. Lux eventually gravitated to his own Purple Knif
Radio show and the Cramps delivered their versions of
some of the stuff they’d found. The duo name-checked
many a 45 along the way and seeking them out and
sampling their eccentricities is nothing short of mind
    blowing.

This 24-track collection positively effervesces with
eccentricity. Again the vinyl only double-10“ is divided
    into 4 themes: „The Rock`n´Rollers“, „New Dance
Trend“, „Instrumentals“ and „The Mad Daddies“.
Every track pirouettes dangerously and at times hap
hazardly around the expected. These are songs for
strange times by what can definitely be considered
strange people. Gems and nuggets that sparkle even
more bright in today’s manufactured music maelstrom.

  • Poole Brian & The Tremeloes - Live At The BBC 1964-67 (2CD) (CD)

    10,00

From the vaults of the BBC come Brian Poole & The Tremeloes’s live studio recordings for programmes such as Saturday Club, broadcast between 1964 and 1967. These sessions also include solo tracks by the Tremeloes and Brian Poole alike. Some of the songs in this package (such as ’It’s All Over Now Baby Blue’, ’Walking My Cat Named Dog’, ’Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever’ and ’Like A Rolling Stone’) were stage favourites or recorded especially for the BBC, having never been issued on disc by the band. Many of the tracks have a brief interview and introduction by DJs such as Brian Matthew. As far as BGO and the BBC are concerned, this is everything that is available – unless anyone out there knows otherwise! Extensive new notes by David Wells.

  • Wild Oats - Same (10``LP)

    29,00

One of the classics of British Beat collecting. Now in perfect sound, with five extra tracks from the sessions.

In the swinging 60s, the very small town of Leiston in Suffolk was home to its own beat group: the Wild Oats. In 1963 budding producer David Nicolson put an ad for new bands in the NME and the Oats were the first to reply. The following year they were in R.G. Jones’ studios in Morden, south London, recording five rousing R&B numbers. They were issued on a custom-pressed EP on the Oak label, the catch-all imprint run by the studio. The run was only 100 discs. David went back into the studios, this time with Harry Stoneham added on piano, to cut ‘I’m Coming Home’ and ‘So Long’. The latter song was written by Crispian St Peters, who added harmonies to it. A final session was recorded at Tony Pike’s studios in Putney but only two tracks recorded there survived.

The glossy EP was quickly forgotten until beat group record collecting began seriously in the 70s and the Oak label became one of the ultimate objects of desire. Oak boasted EPs from the Bo Street Runners and the Five Of Diamonds and singles from the A-Jaes, the Thyrds, Pneumonia and the Factory. All are highly collectible and would cost between £500-£1000 each if sold today. Let’s say £750 for the Wild Oats EP, if you can find a copy for sale.

Moving on 50 years, Ace Records were put into contact with producer David Nicolson, a fascinating 60s music business character who went on to produce Crispian St Peters on his big hits ‘You Were On My Mind’ (music by Harry Stoneham) and ‘The Pied Piper’ as well as records by the Mark Leeman Five, the Truth, Patsy Fuller and many more; the young Jimmy Page features on several of his recordings. David not only had all the master tapes of the Wild Oats EP but also the three extra R.G. Jones tracks and the two from the Tony Pike session. He had the original photos from the shoot on the Suffolk coast and even a couple of copies of the EP.

With the extra tracks sounding at least the equal of the issued numbers, Ace felt a 10-inch deluxe vinyl LP would be most appropriate; the inner bag giving a chance to display the artefacts. Even better, most of the group are still performing around their home town and will enjoy this historic appreciation of their musical talents.
