  • Various - Monster-O-Rama Vol. 3 LP + CD (LP)

    23,00

No less than five vampire songs!!! Dracula is the big winner of the new Monster-O-Rama compilation, third of the name. But we also come across the abominable snowman, zombies, werewolves and even cavemen. Sacred bestiary. Funny, horror, illusions, tricks and a ghost train… El Vidocq gives us the idea of cardboard monsters again. The Cramps in a broke film by Ed Wood, Nino Ferrer embarked on a Méliès-style journey… Because music also has its little effects!!! Rockabilly, Surf, Novelty, Rock, Cha-cha-cha… it’s going to groove seriously for Halloween. Songs in English, in Spanish, two titles in French (oh la la)…. There is even a Mexican title: Fake monsters, all around the world, united! And not to spoil anything, the superb cover illustrated by Alexandre Clerisse will delight all fans of the genre!

  • Various - Strip-O-Rama Vol.4 LP + CD (LP)

    23,00

From the most suave to the most electric, the music accompanying stripteases and other stripteases is adorned, when you think about it, with a staggering variety: The blues of course, whose languor fits perfectly with the exercise, but also rock’n’roll, rhythm and blues, jazz, rockabilly…

Spearhead of the compilations concocted by the mischievous El Vidocq, the “Strip-O-Rama” now has its fourth avatar. Not the slightest drop in speed. Eros deploys, to achieve his ends, an ever-expanding musical range. Judge for yourself: Beninese blues (Orchestra Typique ”El Rego”), pure exotica (The Enchanters), doo wop, pious (The Redwoods), or salacious (The Royal Jockers), Latin hot music (the aptly named ”Burleska” by The Ambassadors), or Latin smooth music (Googie Rene), be bop swing (Marlowe Morris Quintet), pop with amphets (”Magic Lover Man by Aki Aleong, originally from Trinidad & Tobago), weird surf music (”Widgit” by the Surfer’s ), etc, etc… Everything is taken from singles that are both suggestive and funny, published in the mid-50s and 60s – with singular peaks in 1958 and 1962!

Originally background music to accompany these undressings in due form, pieces which turn out to be in fact, and in every way, completely irresistible!!!

  • Various - Voodoo Mambosis And Other Tropical Diseases Vol. 1 (LP)

    27,00

Limited to 500 copies! No repress! Transparent yellow vinyl! Hype sticker on front!

Voodoo Mambosis And Other Tropical Diseases is the start of a new series on Stag-O-Lee. Three volumes are planned.

The original records come from the record box of our esteemed friend Duke Jens-O-Matic, who has been a graphic
designer, internationally acclaimed DJ, collector and hunter for decades.
Jens-O-Matic was there when we first breathed life into Stag-O-Lee and he delivered four volumes of the wonderful Jim
Jam Gems 10” series. Each stylistically self-contained. He is currently working on further Jim Jam Gems volumes, but is
struggling with the liner notes because “one has an educational mission!”.
Now to the record at hand:
What does a friend of the obscure 7″ do when he already has everything in the field of Rhythm & Blues etc.? He is looking
for other fields of activity. Different countries, different music, different influences. So does our Jens-O-Matic. He made a
little trip around the world here, let his new love of cumbia flow in, mixed in a pinch of voodoo, reactivated some old blues
heroes, plus some exotica – it never hurts.
The great art is to combine these on paper disparate elements in such a way that something unique and consistently
exciting is created. Voodoo Mambosis And Other Tropical Diseases is the best example of this!
The cover, also designed by Jens-O-Matic, is a homage to the groundbreaking ’84 compilation Rockabilly Psychosis and
    the Garage Disease!

  • Kitty Ford - Pussycat (Ltd, Pink) (LP)

    33,00

Kitty Ford sprang to life inside Associated Recording Studios (familiarly known as “Associated”) in 1961. Located on 7th Avenue in New York, Associated was a two-minute walk from the famous Brill Building, epicenter of the American music industry that dominated the pop charts in the early 1960s.

Kitty Ford was the alter ego of singer Mimi Evans. On occasion, Mimi would cut a song and a record label would decide to put out her demo. This is how Kitty Ford was born. Smaller labels found they sometimes didn’t have to go into the studio and hire musicians and vocal talent. They simply released a demo they liked. These demos could often be of master quality, depending on how much effort and money the composers or publishers put into it.

“I used to enjoy dreaming up an exciting life for Kitty. Mimi Roman was the singing cowgirl from Brooklyn, but I imagined Kitty Ford as being a sophisticated city girl.”

After remaining in storage for more than half a century, these restored acetates and publishing demos show us another side of the Brooklyn Cowgirl Mimi Roman. Hey everybody! Here’s Kitty Ford, the “sophisticated city girl” with the heart, and voice, of gold!

    – Joseph Hopkins (music historian)

Performing as her poppier alter ego Kitty Ford, these restored acetates and publishing demos show another side of country and rockabilly trailblazer Mimi Roman. Her golden voice adorns songs of teen love, angst, heartbreak and more.

  • Martin Dean - French Style (Pink) (LP)

    29,90

    Coloured Vinyl, High Quality

In 1962 Martin left his record label Capitol and signed with Frank Sinatra’s new label Reprise. His debut album for them was French Style, released in April of that year. Martin had recently released an album of songs sung in Italian and would go on to record an album of Latino material at the end of that year. French Style came in between the two, and collected a number of songs about France ably arranged by conductor Neal Hefti. At this point, France must have seemed impossibly glamorous, with Brigitte Bardot swanning around St Tropez, while Grace Kelly raced her sports car around the clifftops of Cannes in Hitchcock’s To Catch A Thief. Beatniks filled the jazz cafés, where the New Wave of French cinema was being discussed over Disques Bleu and café au lait. What’s more, the majority of songs in this collection focus on Paris – and the City of Lights has been a magnet for Americans ever since the days when Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald and Cole Porter first took up residence there. French Style is delivered with his trademark charm and ease. So, bon appetit!

  • Various - Mambo, Cha Cha Cha & Calypso Vol 4: European Session LP + CD

    22,00

Grouped together under one Caribbean banner, these typically Cuban melodies from the 1930s (Mambo) and
‘50s (Cha-cha-cha), further spicened with Trinidadian tunes from 1915 onwards (Calypso) bubble over to
form a frothing tryptic of irresistible dance songs. First released in the States, these sunny melodies very
rapidly spread around the world following the First World War…
After having first explored a bouquet of female singers (Vol. I), followed by the wild extravagance of this music
(Vol. II) and finally its links to Blues (Vol. III), El Vidocq here focuses on the impact and influences of Mambo,
Cha-cha-cha and Calypso within other regions of the world. Volume quatro: Europe! A hip-swaying road trip
through Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy, Germany and last but not least France. Benefitting from markedly
mixed ensembles – for these countries often opened their arms to exiled musicians – the songs here
spotlighted are all strongly influenced by the Caribbean while yet retaining their own national flavors.
How can you not succumb to “La Suppa de Pichon” by Belgium’s Los Merecumbes, or to the “Cha Cha Twist” by
Spain’s Margarita Sierra? You’re sure to ᴉOlé! the “Torero” by the UK’s very own The Southlanders, while
shaking your bum to Bordeaux’s Ben y su Tumba and his fiery “Tequila” as audacious as the original by Chuck
    Rio!
Where in the world are we? And when? What the hell are we doing?! Gracias, danke schön Jukebox Music
Factory, for having once again shattered the yawnful space-time continuum!!

  • Various - Sex-O-Rama LP + CD (LP)

    22,00

    SEX-O-RAMA
What a relief to escape the humdrum, to conquer one’s ennui, to spice up the too-long evenings stuck at
home… Here’s a proposition: SEX-O-RAMA!!! Oh la la, such an aptly named compilation! Rascally El
Vidocq this time dares to sway outside his comfort zone. Here humanity’s oldest obsession is tackled
tastefully, with class. The selection is amusing, but ever well-meaning, for these songs are as stimulating
to listen to as they are to dance to! Naturally, our intrepid collector had to roam beyond his habitual ‘50s
and ‘60s, for the real sexual revolution did occur a tad later… A few seductive caresses of varying
insistence (Michele Mercier, Geraldine), a few advances “in due and proper form” (naughty Prince Buster!),
an eloquent series of moans and groans (Rita, Armando Travaioli, Noelia Noel), chance encounters
(intransigent Jean Yanne)… not to mention a few exquisite parodies (Jacqueline Mayand and Bourvil, as
drole as they are tender)… So hesitate no longer! Stop biting your lip! The sap is rising, as they say, so
time for a change of ambiance… Time to slip on some SEX-O-RAMA!

  • Various - Mambo, Cha Cha Cha & Calypso Vol 3: Blues Session! LP + CD (LP)

    22,00

El Vidocq pursues his ‘Mambo, Cha-Cha-Cha & Calypso’ voyage with this third, vitamin-D-rich ensemble: ‘Blues Session’. Following in the footsteps of the feminine first volume and insane second ensemble, he here explores the rawest roots of this warm, sun-drenched music. What a delight to discover these groovy tunes from the ‘50s and ‘60s uniquely fusing R’n’B, Rock n’ Roll and Blues. Memphis Slim, Johnny Otis and other legends here loosen up to welcome exotic south-of-the-border influences. Noro Morales and his piano return to their sunny roots,
while Sir Lancelot’s voice accompanies a beach bonfire and Eddie Bo declares his love for island melodies… Jukebox Music Factory shares with you an austral archipelago of ageless charms!

  • Clark Sonny - Cool Struttin´(180 gram) (LP)

    27,00

Conrad Yeatis Clark, otherwise known as Sonny Clark, was in many ways the quintessential hard bop pianist. Possessed of an enviable lyrical flow and a wealth of inventive melodic ideas that unfurled with clarity and without fuss, Clark had a deeply rooted feeling for the blues.

After moving from his hometown of Pittsburgh to New York, Clark emerged as a ubiquitous presence on Blue Note starting in 1957. It was on his fifth Blue Note date as a leader that Clark arrived at his masterwork, Cool Struttin’, recorded in January 1958 with a top-shelf quintet featuring Art Farmer on trumpet, Jackie McLean on alto saxophone, Paul Chambers on bass, and ‘Philly’ Joe Jones on drums. The album has only grown in stature as a timeless hard bop classic since Clark’s premature death at age 31 in 1963.

This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

  • Smith Jimmy - Back At The Chicken Shack (180 gram) (LP)

    27,00

Jimmy Smith was a self-taught pianist who abandoned the instrument in 1954 in favour of the Hammond B3 organ, renting a Philadelphia warehouse and woodshedding for a year until he emerged with a revolutionary style that immediately caught the ear of Alfred Lion. The Blue Note boss dubbed him The Incredible Jimmy Smith and recorded the B3 innovator as frequently as he could between 1956 and 1963.

It’s a testament to Smith’s volcanic creativity that he recorded not one but two soul jazz classics — Midnight Special and Back at the Chicken Shack — when he entered Rudy Van Gelder’s studio on April 25, 1960 with Stanley Turrentine on tenor saxophone, Kenny Burrell on guitar, and Donald Bailey on drums.

This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition is all-analog, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes, and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal

  • Davis Miles - Ascenseur Pour L’Echafaud (180 gram, Coloured) (LP)

    20,00

It was recorded at Le Poste Parisien Studio in Paris on December 4 and 5, 1957. The album features the musical cues for the 1958 Louis Malle film Ascenseur pour l’Échafaud.

Jean-Paul Rappeneau, a jazz fan and Malle’s assistant at the time, suggested asking Miles Davis to create the film’s soundtrack – possibly inspired by the Modern Jazz Quartet’s recording for Roger Vadim’s Sait-on jamais (Does One Ever Know), released a few months earlier in 1957.

Davis was booked to perform at the Club Saint-Germain in Paris for November 1957. Rappeneau introduced him to Malle, and Davis agreed to record the music after attending a private screening. On December 4, he brought his four sidemen to the recording studio without having had them prepare anything. Davis only gave the musicians a few rudimentary harmonic sequences he had assembled in his hotel room, and, once the plot was explained, the band improvised without any precomposed theme, while edited loops of the musically relevant film sequences were projected in the background.

The soundtrack was not released on its own in the USA but ten songs from this soundtrack were released as one side of the album Jazz Track which received a 1960 Grammy nomination for Best Jazz Performance, Solo or Small Group.

This soundtrack might also be referred to as ”Elevator to the Gallows (French: Ascenseur pour l’échafaud; previously known as Frantic in the US), also known as Lift to the Scaffold (UK)”.

  • Money Jungle + 3 bonus tracks-0

Ellington Duke, Mingus Charles & Roach Max - Money Jungle + 3 bonus tracks (LP)

    18,00

The music is superb and to my ear sounds quite “out there” and surprisingly modern. Great playing by all three musicians. The vinyl is excellent – flat and quiet and the music sounds real which is the whole point I suppose. Piano always sounds a little odd in old recordings (I’m not sure why but I’ve been told that recording piano well is very hard ) – and it does sound a little “strained” in places but given the age of the recording it is pretty excellent. Superb. A good investment.

    • Besides The Andrews Sisters there are more ladies with their great voices, above all the stunning Dinah Washington, the crooner lady Dorothy Collins and last but not least Kay Martin, who makes it quite slippery and erotic.

    • Also available as CD (BCD17611) – with bonus tracks!
    Christmas Ball!
With this compilation we want to give more exuberance to the celebration of love, even if some songs are nostalgic and dreamy and you might even feel taken back to your own childhood. This Christmas disc invites you to the Christmas ball, to dancing, to swinging, to contemplation and exuberance among family members, friends, like-minded people and guests. This music brings glamour into every hut, with all the candles, lights and crackling stoves, while it’s snowing and stormy outside…
Again a parade of rarities for Christmas
As always, part of the concept is to focus on rare recordings that are not found on every Christmas collection. For example, a complete single of the Georgie Auld Orchestra with the fantastic singer Bill Darnel, which was released on Coral at the time and contains the title song Christmas Ball, as well as the accompanying B-side, It Ain’t Snowin’ Outside is included. An exotic component comes from The Surfers with Hawaiian sounds and The Enchanters with a mix of doo wop and mambo! To make you laugh, the LP also contains some novelty recordings of greats like Jerry Lewis and Kay Martin. Film star Jerry Lewis had legendary comedic talents in Hollywood’s golden era! Rare recordings, but listen for yourself!
