  • Prima Louis And Lily Ann Carol - Oh Marie! (CD)

    13,00

Before Keely Smith, there was Lily Ann Carol. When Louis Prima abandoned Dixieland and formed his first big band, the beautiful New York native was signed to be his star vocalist, and for more than six years – from 1940-1946 they were one of the most popular attractions in clubs and theatres across the country.

Here gathered together for the first time are nearly all of their recordings and this is the very first collection to throw a spotlight on Lily Ann, who up until now has been something of a mystery figure.

Among their wartime hits are ’Bell Bottom Trousers’, ’I’ll Walk Alone’, ’A Fellow on a Furlough’, ’Hitsum-Kitsum-Bumpity-Itsum’ ’The Lip’ and of course ’Oh Marie’

All tracks have been restored here in sparkling sound on a jam-packed Jasmine CD, with Lily Ann not only singing beautifully, but keeping up with Louis in the humour department as well.

  • Pedicin Mike - Hotter Than A Pistol (CD)

    13,00

Saxman/bandleader MIKE PEDICIN, from Philadelphia, was one of the pioneers of ’House Rock’, the musical hybrid which incorporated Swing, R&B and Hillbilly into an exciting new, danceable format in the immediate pre-R&R era.

Operating largely in and around Philadelphia and New Jersey, his biggest local rival was Bill Haley, who of course went on to become a worldwide star.

Nonetheless, during the 1950s Pedicin and his boys recorded a memorable body of work, and even dented the U.S. Top 100 a couple of times, with ’The Large, Large House’ and ’Shake A Hand’, while sides like ’One Potato-Two Potato’, ’Hotter Than A Pistol’ and ’Burnt Toast And Black Coffee’ are big collectors’ items.

  • Swinging Dors - Expanded Edition -0

Dors Diana - Swinging Dors – Expanded Edition (CD)

    13,00

Blonde Bombshell DIANA DORS is one of a handful of big-name, bill-topping ’Hollywood Golden Era’ actresses who were greatly underrated as singers, and as a result made very few records.

Consequently her recorded legacy is minimal, running to little more than the sides gathered together on this set.

This compilation is built around her highly-regarded LP ’Swinging Dors’, recorded for Pye Records in 1960, which has become a collectors’ item over the ensuing years.

Also included is another serious collectors’ rarity, an earlier 78rpm single, ’I Feel So Mmm……’ / ’A Kiss And A Cuddle’, from 1953, alongside a track from a 1955 musical comedy, and five live performances from 1950s U.S. television shows.

A special ’bonus track’ features the soundbed to a short 1956 television interview with Bob Hope, on American TV.

This is a wholly unique compilation as this body of work has never been thus collated before, while the live TV performances have never previously appeared on CD.

  • That Rock 'n' Rollin' Man-0

Ellington Ray - That Rock ’n’ Rollin’ Man (CD)

    13,00

In a prolific, forty-year recording career, singer/drummer/bandleader RAY ELLINGTON covered plenty of musical bases, from Jazz to Pop, touching all known genres in between.

During the early/mid 50s, while he was a resident on ’The Goon Show’, he became one of the very first British artists to cover US R&R hits (he’d already been covering US R&B since the late 40s).

This compilation comprises everything which might be construed as either Rock’n’Roll or Beat that Ray recorded between 1954-60, including covers of material like ’ABC Boogie’, ’Shake, Rattle And Roll’, ’Framed’, ’Ko Ko Mo’, ’Earth Angel’, ’Stranded In The Jungle’, ’Giddy-Up-A Ding Dong’, ’Green Door’, ’Tutti Frutti’, ’Little Darlin”, ’Charlie Brown’, etc.

Several of his early/mid-50s Columbia 78s have never previously appeared on CD, which makes this set wholly indispensable to Ellington fans/collectors.

  • Sings Italian Favorites-0

Martin Dean - Sings Italian Favorites (CD)

    13,00

Dean Martin typified both the romance and seeming effortlessness of the early-1960s swinger. This collection of lushly orchestrated songs features Italian pop classics like ”There’s No Tomorrow,” ”Arrivederci Roma,” ”Return to Me,” and the Latin-flavored ”Belle From Barcelona,” all performed with Martin’s familiar relaxed intimacy and devil-may-care swagger. The sessions producing this album’s songs were recorded between September 6 and September 8 of 1961. The backing orchestra was conducted and arranged by Gus Levene.

  • Wild One-0

    Various - Wild One (CD)

It was perhaps the most famous movie of the Fifties. It said so much about the Fifties teenage rebellion…and said it first. The soundtrack predated rock ’n’ roll, featuring instead four numbers by noted jazz trumpeter Shorty Rogers and a fabulously atmospheric score by composer Leith Stevens. The four Shorty Rogers numbers were issued on a long-deleted RCA EP, and Leith Stevens recorded 8 songs for a double EP on Decca a few weeks later (all of them featuring Shorty Rogers). In 1956, Stevens recorded another four pieces inspired by the movie to round out a 12 album.

Now the three elements come together for the first time! They work as a souvenir of one of the greatest movies of all time, but, more than that, they work as tight, swinging west coast jazz circa ’53. Here is some great scoring, and here are some of the most innovative musicians on the west coast, including Jimmy Giuffre, Bud Shank, Russ Freeman, Bill Holman, and Shelly Manne.”
