Bluelight Records will release in June 2018 a compilation CD, which covers all Mac Curtis’ singles released in 1956-1965.
Mac Curtis (1939-2015) began his career in the mid 1950’s with a sequence of singles that later became top rockabilly classics, such as ”Grandaddy’s Rockin'”, ”If I Had Me A Woman” and ”You Ain’t Treatin’ Me Right”. Later in the 1960’s he started a career as a radio DJ and became a respected and nationally known figure in the country music industry. While spinning other singers’ hits on the airwaves Mac released many singles on almost as many record labels through the early and mid 1960’s. In the late 1960’s his stint on Epic and GRT labels produced two excellent country LP’s, ”Sunshine Man” and ”Early In The Morning”, plus a string of charting singles. Next decade’s rockabilly revival led to a steady stream of Mac Curtis singles and albums on the legendary Rollin’ Rock label.
Although best known for his 1950’s rockabilly recordings – the frenziest of the era – Mac Curtis’ country recordings are equally as good. The very last album he released in 2011, ”Songs I Wish I Wrote”, was a return to his roots and a beautiful set of country songs carefully chosen by the artist himself.
Now for the very first time all early Mac Curtis singles from various record labels are combined on one Compact Disc. These thirty-three tracks represent in a chronological order all songs originally released on Mac Curtis singles from 1956 to 1965 plus two early demos and an alternative take, which has been previously available only on a 78 rpm single.
