When the Shreveport singing duo of Jimmy and Johnny scored a Top 10 hit in late 1954 with If You Don’t, Somebody Else Will, they seemed poised to become the next big hit-making act to come from the stage of the ’Louisiana Hayride.’ It wasn’t to be, yet Jimmy and Johnny recorded a consistently satisfying body of music throughout the 1950s, ranging from the purest country to the most energetic rockabilly. When Johnny Mathis quit the duo in 1955, Jimmy Fautheree’s brother Lynn became ’Johnny’. This new team recorded numerous sides for Decca, but by 1957 Lynn had quit as well. Johnny Mathis returned in 1958 to record several more fine records with Jimmy, yet these were studio-only duets. The last Jimmy and Johnny record was released in 1961.

For the first time, all of Jimmy and Johnny’s recorded output for Chess, Decca, D, Vin and Republic, including four unreleased recordings, have been collected together here on CD. Also included are Jimmy Lee and Wayne Walker’s rare Chess recordings. Accompanying this set is a 48-page booklet with many never-before-seen photographs, as well as a biography and discography by Andrew Brown.
