When Blue Suede Shoes was released on Sam Phillips’ Sun label in 1955 it became a milestone in Rock ’n’ Roll history.
It was the first rockabilly record to make the national Top 10, as well as being the first to make the Pop, Country and R&B charts and sell over a million copies.
Perkins went on to record a string of Rockabilly classics which have both influenced and been covered by many of the rock greats.
As well as being a highly successful songwriter, Carl Perkins also wrote hits for the likes of Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and The Judds.
He was also a phenomenal guitarist whose playing style came to epitomise Rock ’n’ Roll.
