– These stellar sides were among his first in a recording career that spanned nearly 30 years – from 1944 until his untimely death in 1974. They are widely considered by R&B collectors to be among his very best.

– On most of the featured tracks, Ivory Joe is backed by the rhythm and horn section from no less a band than that of Duke Ellington.
