Gibson Steve And The Red Caps - Blueberry Hill (Käytetty LP/12)
€13,00The Red Caps started as a vocal group called the Four Toppers. By the time these recordings were made (1946 – 1952) they had developed into an all-round instrumental and vocal unit. They were in at the beginning of the rise of the R&B indie labels in New York, signing for Joe Davis’ new Beacon label in 1942. Most of the sides in this collection were recorded for Mercury and RCA Victor.
There’s a mix of jivey numbers, sentimental ballads, novelties and even some almost-rock ’n’ roll. GASP at the resemblance to the Inkspots in You Can’t See The Sun When You’re Cryin'”, CLICK YOUR FINGERS to ”Jack, You’re Dead” and ”D-Ya-Eat Yet Joe?” WEEP along with ”I Went To Your Wedding” (but just try to keep the Spike Jones and his City Slickers parody out of your thoughts) and finally THRILL to one of the greatest moments in any R&B record in ”Blueberry Hill” (and I’m not kidding).”
